Elon Musk's bust has its face slashed

Landowner Eleazar Villafranca confirmed that a large statue of Tesla CEO Elon Musk was vandalized over the weekend.

Elon Musk statue was slashed in many places

Villafranca said he had been called by several truck drivers to report damage to the statue. When he arrived at the scene, he found deep gashes on the Elon Musk statue's eyes, chin and back. "There were about three or four places where it had been cut with a knife," Villafranca said.

The sculpture, which features the SpaceX founder's face, was inspired by a pencil portrait posted online by a user named Watchieboy six years ago and even became a meme.

He said the statue is about 3.6 meters tall and is made of a rubber-like material. The artist who created the statue is a friend of Villafranca who lives in France.

This man hired him to place the statue on his land, and the statue was placed there for about a year.

In a previous interview, the artist said that he is a tech entrepreneur nicknamed "Louis XXII" and a huge fan of Elon Musk.

Villafranca said he has attempted to contact the artist to discuss the vandalism, but has not received a response. He added that another artist has agreed to repair the statue.

The landowner also said authorities were notified of the incident and a report was filed, but he did not know if a suspect had been identified. The Cameron County Sheriff's Office did not respond to ABC News' request for comment.

Anti-Elon Musk Wave

The incident comes amid recent attacks targeting Tesla dealerships, Tesla vehicles and charging stations in multiple cities across the US, since Elon Musk began taking on a role in President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency, also known as DOGE.

The Rio Grande Valley is no exception. In February, a mural of Musk in downtown Brownsville was vandalized with the words “Deny Defend Depose,” along with a symbol spray-painted in black on one of Musk’s cheeks.

Two years earlier, in February 2022, a local environmental activist was also accused of graffitiing another mural in downtown Brownsville, spray-painting a message demanding SpaceX operations be stopped.
