ADC is a 9.800 km long sea cable connecting China, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. ADC cable system with 8 pairs of optical fibers, capable of transmitting more than 140 Tbps of data traffic, allowing high capacity transmission across East Asia and Southeast Asia. This is also an undersea fiber optic cable using modern transmission technology, helping to connect countries in the Asia-Pacific region, with a total initial investment of 290 million USD.

Currently, Internet service providers in Vietnam are participating in investing and exploiting 5 international undersea fiber optic cable routes including AAG, APG, SMW3, AAE-1 and IA. According to the expected plan, by the end of this year, the undersea cable alliance with VNPT will put into operation the new sea cable route SJC2. The operation time of the ADC undersea fiber optic cable route with Viettel's participation in the investment is in the first quarter of 2024.

A difference of the two submarine cable lines SJC2 and ADC that are about to be put into operation is that compared to the undersea cable routes that Vietnam is exploiting, two new routes are connected to Vietnam in Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh. According to Mr. Vu The Binh, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Internet Association, this helps to increase the safety of Vietnam's international connection system, not all in one location. edge.

On the other hand, the fact that two cable lines SJC2, ADC still connect to Hong Kong, Singapore confirms the fact of the great role of these two main hubs, but also shows that Vietnam can step by step have the opportunity to become a central station. regional connectivity, if the infrastructure connecting to Western countries as well as domestic infrastructure is developed stronger.

Evaluation of two submarine cables ADC and SJC2, Mr. Vu The Binh said, these two submarine cables are applied the latest technologies, so the capacity and cost are both likely better than the sea cables. Present. It is certain that, when new undersea cables are put into operation, Vietnam's dependence on current undersea cables will be reduced; along with that, the safety, stability of service quality will also increase.

In the information shared in February 2, the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Information and Communications said that to increase the initiative of Vietnam, the Ministry of Information and Communications is directing Vietnamese enterprises to build about two international undersea cable routes led by the group. domestic enterprises allied with each other to invest and own. The Ministry of Information and Communications will be the focal point to gather and mobilize domestic telecommunications enterprises to coordinate in the construction, in which there will be large and strong enterprises leading the deployment and other enterprises participating and contributing.

Next, at the May press conference of the Ministry of Information and Communications on May 5, the Director of the Department of Telecommunication Nguyen Thanh Phuc said that in the coming time, the Ministry of Information and Communications will urge and guide telecommunications businesses to research, to build 5-5 new undersea fiber optic cable routes, in line with the draft "Planning for information and communication infrastructure 4 - 6 to ensure to meet demand by 2021".
