Bui Thi Xuan High School, Ben Thanh Ward (formerly District 1), Ho Chi Minh City, has issued an urgent warning to all parents and 12th-grade students for the 2024-2025 school year about a scam targeting students participating in university entrance exams after receiving their high school graduation exam results.
The announcement from Bui Thi Xuan High School stated: "Currently, there are scammers impersonating staff of Bui Thi Xuan High School or universities, calling to inform students that they have been accepted and requesting money transfers or ID card information to complete their applications. The school urges parents to absolutely not comply; do not transfer money, do not provide personal information; if you have any suspicions, contact the homeroom teacher immediately for verification."
Similarly, Ernst Thälmann High School (Ben Thanh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) has just sent an urgent notice to parents and 12th-grade students for the 2024-2025 school year, warning them to be vigilant against scammers after the 2025 high school graduation exam results are released.
In the warning, the school stated: Currently, after the Ministry of Education and Training announced the high school graduation exam results, some individuals may impersonate teachers or staff of Ernst Thälmann High School, calling students to obtain personal information; or impersonate representatives of universities, calling to inform students of their acceptance, then requesting payment, bank transfers, or the provision of ID cards, bank account details, OTP codes, etc. This is a fraudulent act, exploiting the impatience and lack of vigilance of parents and students.
Ernst Thälmann High School advises: Parents should absolutely not provide personal information, ID card numbers, OTP codes, etc., over the phone; do not transfer money or pay any fees according to any unclear requests; if in doubt, please call the homeroom teacher or contact the school for verification.
University admission information will be officially announced on the Ministry of Education and Training's system and on the system of each university; there will be no notification by phone or requests for advance payment.
According to Mr. Huynh Thanh Phu, Principal of Bui Thi Xuan High School, a 12th-grade student in class 12A3 received a phone call from someone claiming to be a school administrative staff member, requesting the student to provide additional personal information to complete their application form via a provided link. Another student received a phone call impersonating a university, announcing their acceptance and requesting a money transfer…
Suspicious, the students then contacted their homeroom teacher to verify the information. Following this, the school issued a warning to all 12th-grade students and their parents.
High school leaders emphasized that all high schools have completed the data entry process for 12th-grade students taking the 2025 high school graduation exam. Therefore, there will be no further requests from students to supplement their application files. Regarding university application preferences, students should remain calm, carefully review the information, and contact their homeroom teacher or the school for support, guidance, and answers if they have any questions.
