Although there have been significant improvements in stunting rates over the past decades, 1 in 3 children in West and Central Africa still suffer from stunting.

Of these, nearly 1 million children in Mali are at risk of acute malnutrition by the end of 2023. About 32% of children in Africa are stunted and nearly 80% do not have an adequate diet.

To address this situation, UNICEF has called on public and private organizations to join the “First Foods” initiative to create sustainable, systemic, climate-resilient change, transforming food systems to sustainably prevent child malnutrition in West and Central Africa.
