Helping people settle down

Ensuring stable housing for the people has always been a top priority for the Party Committee, government, and all levels, sectors, and socio- political organizations in U Minh Thuong commune, helping people achieve stable lives and sustainable poverty reduction. The commune has flexibly applied mechanisms, policies, and resources to jointly support housing for war veterans, poor and near-poor households, providing them with stable housing and enabling them to rise out of poverty sustainably.

More than five months after moving into her new, sturdy house, Mrs. Vo Thi Be, a resident of U Minh Thuong commune, remains overjoyed. The house was a lifelong dream that her family never imagined they could finally build. Mrs. Be's family is classified as a poor household with no stable employment. Due to their difficult circumstances and inability to build a proper house, Mrs. Be had lived in a dilapidated dwelling for many years. When the local government implemented a program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, she received support to build a solidarity house. "Thanks to the local government's support in helping me build a decent house, my family no longer fears the rain and wind, and our lives are more stable," Mrs. Be said.

This year, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Bay's family, residing in U Minh Thuong commune, celebrated Tet (Lunar New Year) in a spacious new house. Mrs. Bay's family is a disadvantaged household, primarily relying on hired labor for their livelihood . Their house had been dilapidated for many years, and they lacked the means to rebuild or repair it. After surveying the situation, U Minh Thuong commune mobilized resources to provide financial support for Mrs. Bay's family to build a new house through the "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" program. "Having a new, spacious house makes my family very happy. I never imagined that in my twilight years, my dream would come true. I am extremely grateful to the local government for providing the financial support for building the house," Mrs. Bay shared.

Implementing the "Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses" program, U Minh Thuong commune has built more than 230 solidarity houses and 229 houses of compassion, with a total value of over 26.2 billion VND, helping people to settle down, make a living, and improve their lives. Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune, Duong Quoc Khoi, shared: "This is a very meaningful and correct policy. Thanks to the Party's policy, the State's policies, and the joint efforts of the Party committee, government, and socio-political organizations, many families now have solid houses to live in, thereby focusing on labor and production, and achieving sustainable poverty reduction."

Working together to care for social welfare.

Recognizing social welfare work as an important and ongoing task, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of U Minh Thuong commune and political and social organizations in the commune have proactively advised the Party Committee and coordinated with the government to develop programs and plans to effectively care for the poor and those in difficult circumstances. This has fostered the strength of national unity, created consensus among all segments of the population, and mobilized resources to contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the locality.

According to Pham Thi Bich Phuong, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of U Minh Thuong commune, in recent years, caring for the people's lives has been one of the commune's key tasks, aiming to improve the quality of life for residents, contributing to socio-political stability and creating momentum for development. Responding to the "For the Poor - Leaving No One Behind" emulation movement launched by the Government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune and its member organizations have implemented many practical activities to care for and support poor households and those with difficult circumstances, ensuring social security.

To provide resources for the poor and disadvantaged, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of U Minh Thuong commune annually organizes fundraising campaigns for the poor, aiming to foster solidarity and mutual assistance among the people. The work of showing gratitude and appreciation is also given attention; from 2024 to the present, the commune has built and renovated 108 houses of gratitude, totaling over 8 billion VND. Every year, during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune coordinates visits and gift-giving to policy beneficiary families, totaling over 500 million VND...

“To better care for the people, the poor, and those in difficult circumstances, in the coming time, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of U Minh Thuong commune will focus on innovating methods of propaganda and mobilization of the people, with high determination to contribute to the successful implementation of the goals set forth in the resolution of the Party Congress of the commune. At the same time, we will promote our core role and continue to accompany the locality in poverty reduction and social security,” said Ms. Pham Thi Bich Phuong.
