AI applications in agricultural extension

In the context of digital transformation being an inevitable requirement, agricultural extension officers are actively applying communication through social media with short clips, instructional videos, technical reports, or stories about effective agricultural models to provide farmers with the necessary knowledge and production skills.

In recent times, in addition to disseminating information and providing technical guidance on production to farmers through training courses, the agricultural extension staff in the province have also produced short video clips to provide visual guidance to farmers. By 2025, agricultural extension officers will produce 70 video clips promoting advanced techniques and effective agricultural models for farmers to watch and follow.

To improve video shooting and editing skills, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center is organizing training courses on applying AI technology in voiceover production to reduce costs and time compared to traditional methods. In addition to theoretical learning, the training courses provide opportunities for participants to practice through vivid, real-life footage, attracting viewers. Producing agricultural extension video clips using AI technology not only helps farmers quickly adopt scientific and technical advancements but also facilitates their dissemination throughout the community.

Popular filming locations often include models for transferring advanced technologies to farmers in livestock farming, crop cultivation, aquaculture, and ornamental plants. The Phu Si Orchid Garden in Rach Gia ward is one such suitable location for trainees to visit and film practical videos.

Under the guidance of Master Huynh Viet Trung from the Information Technology Center of An Giang University, students were divided into groups to practice topics such as: how to choose beautiful camera angles in natural light conditions; how to capture motion and record orchid care activities; how to record field audio with minimal background noise; how to arrange the scene to enhance visual appeal and emotion; interviewing garden owners and recording technical procedures… All operations were performed directly, allowing students to learn by doing, retain information longer, and become more confident.

Throughout the practical sessions, all students displayed a positive, dynamic, and creative attitude. Many were encountering professional filming and editing techniques for the first time, but through effort and a proactive spirit, they quickly mastered the equipment and effectively completed the assignments given by the instructor.

As a result, each group produced their first video products with unique characteristics. Some groups explored the technical aspects of orchid cultivation, others documented the entrepreneurial journey of the garden owners, and still others focused on the role of orchid cultivation in the urban economy. The initial products successfully met the requirements of the field video shooting and editing program set by the training course.

Equipping agricultural extension officers with video shooting and editing skills not only enhances their proactive approach to communication but also reduces the cost of hiring external production units. Furthermore, creating video content that reflects local culture, is relatable, and authentic meets the need for rapid and timely dissemination of information.

The practical session at the Fuji orchid garden concluded with great enthusiasm. Agricultural extension officers worked diligently, exchanging ideas and supporting each other. Each frame captured the passion, efforts to innovate, and modernization of communication work by those working alongside farmers. This is a solid foundation towards the goal of building higher quality, more engaging, and useful communication products to provide farmers with valuable knowledge and skills, contributing to the development of the province's agricultural sector.
