According to Neowin , the App Store listing describes the app as capable of handling various conversation topics that its "AI friend" can handle, such as understanding complex subjects, learning new languages, and preparing for interviews. The notes also suggest that face-to-face conversations in real time will feel more natural and faster than typing and reading text like the current ChatGPT.

Call Annie requires an iPhone 12 or later to video chat.

Videos shared by several users show that, while the responses appear to have little delay, the bot's voice in the recordings sounds robotic. The app's developers stated in a Reddit post that the initial image of Annie's face was created using Midjourney, but the facial expressions are animated in real time using on-device processing to match the generated voice. Therefore, the app would require Apple's Neural Engine, and its video calling mode is only available on iPhone 12 models and later.

Users with older iPhone models are limited to audio-only calls. However, Call Annie is also compatible with Mac computers that have Apple M-series chips and are running macOS 13 or later.

Bots can also assist users when traveling by providing information on various things such as local customs and must-see attractions. Regarding privacy, the developers assert that all conversations with the AI ​​bot are kept confidential. When the bot responds to a user, they state that no voice recordings are saved and only "records are saved/forwarded to ChatGPT to receive all conversations."

Interestingly, many Reddit users reported that the bot claimed "its name is Samantha," suggesting it appears to be a successor to an older chatbot named Samantha. The developers say the issue will be fixed soon.

Regarding ChatGPT, recent reports indicate that the operating costs of OpenAI's AI chatbot could reach $700,000 per day. OpenAI has also recently added an incognito mode to ChatGPT, allowing users to disable chat history and collect training data.
