(BGĐT) - Sharing the majestic Truong Son mountain range and the Mekong River, the Vietnamese and Lao peoples have always been loyal and steadfast, standing shoulder to shoulder throughout their history of national liberation struggles and nation-building. Continuing this tradition, Bac Giang province has undertaken many meaningful activities, including the "Nurturing Friendship" program for the younger generation of Laos.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Trong, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations, said: Currently, there are no universities in the province with Lao students studying there. However, every year the province welcomes them to the locality for practical experience under the Central Committee's "Nurturing Friendship" program. This creates opportunities for Lao students to practice Vietnamese, and to interact with and learn about the life, people, and culture of Vietnam.

In Bac Giang, the Vietnam-Laos Friendship "Nurturing" program is organized annually since 2019 by the Provincial Union of Friendship Organizations in coordination with the Bac Giang Provincial Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association and the Liaison Committee of Volunteer Soldiers and Experts Assisting the Lao Revolution. Each year, the program features practical and innovative activities such as: learning about high-tech clean agricultural production, visiting Bac Giang University of Agriculture and Forestry (Bich Dong town, Viet Yen district); and the Border Guard College (Viet Lap commune, Tan Yen district)...

In mid-June, Bac Giang province welcomed 33 Lao students – young talents studying at Friendship School 80 ( Hanoi ) – on a field trip to Luc Ngan district, the fruit-growing capital of Northern Vietnam; they also visited, admired the scenery, and learned about religion and beliefs at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda (Yen Dung).

At each location, the students had the opportunity to directly experience harvesting lychees; learn about the knowledge and techniques of planting and caring for lychees; and explore the land, culture, history, and people of Bac Giang. In particular, they interacted with former experts and volunteer soldiers from Laos, gaining a deeper understanding of the heartfelt assistance and sacrifices of the soldiers of the People's Army who shared hardships and resources to help their brotherly country, Laos.

Khamping Sido Ungchanh, a student studying abroad, is 20 years old this year. If she weren't wearing traditional Lao clothing and her school uniform, many would mistake her for a Vietnamese girl because she speaks Vietnamese very well, and her way of speaking is very "Vietnamese." She says that she was born and raised in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, and heard many stories about Vietnam from her grandparents and parents, so studying here is her dream.

After eight months of diligent study at Friendship School 80, with dedicated guidance and instruction from Vietnamese teachers, my Vietnamese language skills have improved significantly. When my name was included in the list to participate in the experience in Bac Giang, I was very happy and cherished this precious opportunity. This is my first time here under the "Nurturing Friendship" program. Khamping Sido Ungchanh was extremely excited, constantly taking photos with her friends and the veterans from the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association of Bac Giang province; chatting animatedly with the garden owner and other local people in Luc Ngan.

The special friendship between Vietnam and Laos has been nurtured over many generations. Today's young generation are the "green shoots" that will continue this special relationship and solidarity.

Joining this experience were many teachers from Friendship School 80. Young teacher Vu Phan Minh Trang, originally from Hanoi, who has been teaching Vietnamese at the school for 5 years, was equally enthusiastic about leading the group of exchange students to Bac Giang this time.

Throughout the trip, in the car, she continuously answered the children's questions about Bac Giang province, Luc Ngan district, and why the lychees grown there are different from those grown in Laos. The children also asked about the architecture of temples in Northern Vietnam and the customs and culture of the region. Initially, the children didn't speak Vietnamese fluently, so whenever they didn't understand something, everyone explained and guided them.

“I think this will be an extremely valuable and meaningful time for the students, giving them the opportunity to improve their Vietnamese communication skills and gain a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture, customs, and traditions. After graduating and returning to Vietnam, they will be an important and high-quality human resource and a bridge of friendship between the two nations and their peoples,” Ms. Trang said.

Bac Giang province has been implementing many activities to further strengthen the loyal and steadfast relationship between Vietnam and Laos. In 2021, Bac Giang and Xaysomboun provinces signed a Cooperation Agreement. Continuing these meaningful programs and activities, the "Nurturing Friendship" program has contributed to nurturing and caring for these "green shoots." In the near future, these "green shoots" will grow into healthy trees, bearing fruit and further strengthening the Vietnam-Laos friendship, making it ever more enduring and sustainable.

Glory to the Vietnamese-Lao Volunteer Soldiers

"Every person's life is filled with countless memories, but wartime memories always leave a deep mark in our minds, especially for Vietnamese-Lao volunteer soldiers like us," shared Mr. Hoang Dinh Tien, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam-Lao Friendship Association and Head of the Liaison Committee for Vietnamese Volunteer Soldiers and Experts Assisting the Lao Revolution in Bac Giang province.
