The single-story house of Mr. Tu Duy Tien's family (Trang Huong village, Doan Ket commune) was built in 1992. To date, the house has seriously deteriorated, with increasing numbers of peeling paint and cracks, causing inconvenience to the family's daily life and affecting their health. Although Mr. Tien's family wants to renovate the house and kitchen to improve their living conditions, they are unable to do so. The reason is that their land is included in the planning for a high-end furniture manufacturing project, meaning no construction or renovation work is permitted.
Mr. Tien shared: "Time keeps passing, our house is deteriorating, and we are worried about our lives because we are not safe. Our greatest wish right now is for the local authorities to soon come up with a concrete plan to resolve this issue, creating conditions for people to live in peace and stability in the long term."
Reportedly, the high-end furniture manufacturing plant project, invested by Sun Corporation, covers a total area of 34.5 hectares, affecting 79 households. The project's implementation included a land acquisition notice and land clearance survey conducted since November 2022, but to date, the households within the project area have not received compensation.
Mr. Tu Duy Hai, Secretary of the Party Branch of Trang Huong village, said: "When the people received the notice about the project, they all agreed and complied with maintaining the status quo, not repairing or building new houses, not subdividing land, and not changing the land use purpose... to ensure the land survey and compensation process according to regulations. However, nearly three years have passed, and the project has not been implemented, nor has the land compensation for the people been carried out. We hope that the authorities will soon intervene. If the project is to proceed, there must be a land compensation plan for the households; if it is not to proceed, then a notice of project cancellation should be issued soon, so that the households can proactively continue their production and business activities, maintain normal living conditions, and ensure that their lives are not disrupted."
According to Ms. Le Thuy Nga, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Doan Ket commune (Van Don district), the aforementioned issue has been addressed by the commune government through voter consultations, reports sent to specialized departments of the district, and coordination efforts to find a definitive solution. The cause of the prolonged delay has been identified as the investor, Sun Corporation, not yet having allocated the necessary capital for the project. Therefore, the government has requested Sun Corporation to promptly allocate funds to resolve the land clearance issues for the affected households.
According to information from the Van Don District People's Committee, after the approval of the high-end furniture manufacturing plant project in Trang Huong village, invested by Sun Joint Stock Company, the District People's Committee directed the Land Fund Development Center to vigorously implement land clearance work. Currently, in some cases, the investor has not yet completed the signing of land extracts, so there is no basis to proceed with the next steps. However, for those cases where the compensation plan has been completed according to the process, the investor has not yet committed to allocating funds for payment, leading to the district being unable to approve the compensation plan.
To ensure the project is implemented in accordance with the law, the People's Committee of Van Don District proactively manages state affairs at the local level, regularly inspecting, urging, and supervising the project's implementation. The district continues to report to competent authorities, requesting the investor to coordinate with relevant agencies and localities to focus resources, overcome difficulties and obstacles, and commit to accelerating the investment project's progress in accordance with the approved plan.
