Mobilizing farmers to develop the economy.

Not only do they set an example in labor and production, but influential individuals also actively promote science and technology, connect resources for support, become an important bridge between the Party committee and government and the people, and spread many effective production models in the area.

Reputable person in Hong Thai commune is promoting to the people economic development from local agricultural products
Reputable individuals in Hong Thai commune are encouraging residents to develop their economy based on local agricultural products.

Many agricultural models boldly experimented with by respected individuals have yielded economic benefits for farmers. In Xa Phin village, Thanh Thuy commune, to "exploit" the potential of Shan Tuyet tea, Mr. Dang Van Hau, a respected figure, has taken the lead in Shan Tuyet tea production. Xa Phin village has over 100 hectares of ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees. To help households avoid price manipulation by traders and increase their income from selling fresh tea leaves, Mr. Hau mobilized seven members of the village to establish the Tra Peng Cooperative, specializing in purchasing and processing tea. After only a few months of operation, the Tra Peng Cooperative, headed by respected figure Dang Van Hau, purchased over 2 tons of fresh tea leaves from villagers at a price of 50,000 VND/kg, then packaged and sold the finished product. The cooperative currently produces three main types of tea: green tea, black tea, and white tea. On average, the cooperative supplies more than 1 ton of finished dried tea to the market each year, with prices ranging from 1.2 to 2.5 million VND per kilogram. Ms. Chang Thi Thay, from Xa Phin village, shared: “My family has been involved with tea cultivation for generations. Before, tea didn't sell well, and life was difficult. Now, with the cooperative, tea has a stable market, income has increased, and everyone is very happy. We will preserve the Shan Tuyet tea plant for our children and grandchildren in the future.”

In Hong Thai commune, Mr. Trieu Van Ta, a respected figure in Pac Khoang village, former Party Secretary and Village Head, is a prime example of economic development. Having been involved in community mobilization for many years, he always believed that for people to trust the community, officials and respected individuals must set a good example. From the reality of inefficient corn and cassava production, he boldly experimented and encouraged villagers to switch to planting pear trees and Shan Tuyet tea, which are well-suited to the local climate and soil.

Mr. Ta shared: “In the beginning, the villagers were hesitant and afraid of the risks. I had to do it myself first, take care of the crops, and harvest them before people believed and followed suit.” By “hands-on guidance,” he directly instructed each household on techniques, while patiently encouraging them to confidently switch to different crops. To date, many households in Pac Khoang village have a stable income, and their lives have improved significantly.

Not only focusing on developing the local economy, Mr. Ta also actively promoted and encouraged people to participate in overseas labor export programs of the State, opening up more sustainable poverty alleviation avenues for many families. Thanks to his exemplary and responsible leadership, many policies and guidelines of the Party and State have been effectively implemented and put into practice.

In recent years, winter crop production has been identified as a crucial direction to increase value per unit area and boost farmers' income. Chiêm Hóa commune currently has 60 respected individuals in its villages and hamlets. These are exemplary individuals, trusted by the local people, possessing production experience and a deep understanding of the local soil and climate conditions. Through their prestige and exemplary conduct, these respected individuals have directly propagated and encouraged farmers to change their production mindset, gradually shifting from small-scale, fragmented farming to concentrated production; and selecting high-economic-value winter crops such as winter corn, potatoes, and various vegetables.

Mr. Ta Quoc Hien, a respected figure in Dong Huong village, stated: "First and foremost, we must proactively change and apply effective new techniques to build trust and reassure the people, encouraging them to expand their cultivated area and establish a concentrated winter crop production zone." Not only is he a pioneer in this transformation, but he also actively learns and updates his knowledge; he collaborates with agricultural extension officers to disseminate information on planting schedules, techniques for sowing, caring for, and controlling pests and diseases through village meetings, contributing to improved crop yields and quality.

Reputable individuals are key in the work of disseminating information and mobilizing farmers to focus on production and economic development. Continuing to promote their role and creating favorable conditions for them to operate effectively will significantly contribute to the development of agricultural production in the province towards a market-oriented approach, thereby increasing people's income.
