'Black gold' breaks record from 10 years ago.

In November, pepper exports exceeded 17,000 tons, valued at nearly $110 million. Cumulative exports for the first 11 months reached 223,000 tons, a decrease of 0.5% in volume but reaching $1.5 billion in value, a 24% increase compared to the same period in 2024. It is projected that for the whole year of 2025, Vietnam's total pepper export value will surpass $1.6 billion, the highest ever.

This is a new record for Vietnam's pepper industry, exceeding the 2024 figure by approximately $300 million and surpassing the previous record of $1.42 billion set in 2016.

After 2016, Vietnam's pepper exports continuously declined, hitting a low point in 2000 at only $666 million. After many years of missed opportunities, pepper exports finally returned to the billion-dollar mark for the first time in 2024.

Compared to 10 years ago, the Vietnamese pepper industry is facing many positive opportunities as the global pepper supply remains lower than demand.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , this result was achieved thanks to the average export price of pepper in the first 11 months of 2025 estimated at US$6,755/ton, an increase of 30.5% compared to the same period last year.

In terms of the market, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order exempting agricultural products that the country cannot produce on a large scale, including spices, from tariffs. As a result, Vietnam's pepper and spice industry continues to benefit from both stable demand and tariff preferences, opening up significant growth potential.

The US remains Vietnam's number one pepper market with a turnover of $373 million, a 1% increase compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the next two markets are Germany with $114 million, a 35% increase, and India with $74 million, a 65% increase.

In the domestic market, the purchase price of black pepper increased by an average of 4,000 - 5,000 VND/kg, commonly fluctuating around 150,000 VND/kg. In the first days of December, the price of pepper continued to rise slightly to 151,000 - 152,000 VND/kg. "Besides the issue of US tariffs, concerns about the impact on pepper supply due to the complex and prolonged flooding situation in key growing areas in the Central Highlands also pushed up pepper prices," according to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
