Good news for the Vietnamese women's futsal team.

The draw for the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship has brought good news for the Vietnamese women's futsal team. The draw placed Thanh Hang and her teammates in Group B alongside Iran, Hong Kong, and the Philippines.

This is a manageable group, because apart from the defending champions Iran (ranked 9th in the world ) who are of a superior level, the teams from the Philippines and Hong Kong are not on par with the Vietnamese women's futsal team in terms of skill.

The Vietnamese women's futsal team is in a relatively easy group.

The Hong Kong women's futsal team is ranked 31st in the world, while the Philippines is ranked 59th. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women's futsal team is ranked 11th in the world. At the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team defeated the Philippines 6-1. If they perform well in their two matches against Hong Kong and the Philippines, Vietnam is guaranteed a place in the quarterfinals.

The remaining groups in the 2025 women's futsal tournament also show a stratification of skill levels. Group A has Uzbekistan (ranked 18th in the world) as the strongest team, followed by China (ranked 26th) and Taiwan (ranked 25th). The weakest team in the group is Australia, which is not yet ranked by FIFA.

Meanwhile, in Group C, defending runner-up Japan (ranked 10th) will face Thailand (ranked 6th), Indonesia (ranked 24th), and Bahrain (ranked 36th).

The 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship finals will take place from May 7th to 18th in China. In the most recent tournament in 2018, the Vietnamese women's futsal team finished fourth overall.

The door to the World Cup is wide open.

In the Asian Women's Futsal Championship finals, the top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will advance to the quarterfinals.

If they perform to their full potential, the Vietnamese women's futsal team will finish second in Group B. There, coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team will face the second-placed team in Group A, most likely the Chinese or Taiwanese women's futsal team.

Overall, facing any team in Group A shouldn't be a major challenge, as all the teams in this group are ranked below the Vietnamese women's futsal team in the world rankings.

Will coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his players qualify for the World Cup?

The real challenge will come in the semi-finals, when Coach Dinh Hoang's team could face either Japan or Thailand. These are two of the three strongest women's futsal teams in Asia currently. Thailand is the highest-ranked Asian women's futsal team on the FIFA rankings (6th), while Japan is the reigning runner-up.

However, the Vietnamese women's futsal team defeated Thailand in the 2024 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship final. This provides a source of confidence for the Vietnamese futsal girls to achieve something special.

Tickets to the Women's Futsal World Cup will be awarded to the Asian champions, runners-up, and third-place teams. If the Philippines (the World Cup host nation) reach the semi-finals, Asia will be awarded four spots. However, this is unlikely, as the Philippine women's futsal team is only ranked 59th in the world.

Therefore, the Vietnamese women's futsal team needs to at least reach the semi-finals to keep their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup alive. The draw has given Coach Dinh Hoang's team a favorable group stage and quarter-final run. To go further, Thanh Hang and her teammates must put in their best effort.
