In early March, a friend from Ho Chi Minh City expressed interest in visiting Binh Thuan province and wanted to see Hon Cau island. After several postponements due to unusually windy weather, my group of friends and I finally had the chance to return to this beautiful island last weekend on a truly lovely day. Cu Lao Cau is a small island belonging to Tuy Phong district, about 110 km from Phan Thiet city. It is one of the very rare uninhabited islands in Vietnam, established as a nature reserve, home to a rare species of sea turtle, listed in the Red Book of endangered species.

It only took about 30-40 minutes by boat from Lien Huong or Phuoc The to arrive at Hon Cau, much to the amazement and admiration of our friends, as the "green paradise" unfolded before our eyes. For over a year now, the 2-day, 1-night Cu Lao Cau tour has been very popular among young people, especially from March to June when the weather is calm and favorable. Upon arrival, our group didn't mind the Tuy Phong sun and wind, jumping into the sea, immersing ourselves in the clear, turquoise water, swimming and playing like children who love the water. Although the island is still pristine and lacks many services compared to other islands, it is precisely this tranquility and peacefulness that attracts so many travel enthusiasts.

In the afternoon, I led my group of friends to explore Yen Cave, Ba Hon Cave, Tien Beach, Gia Long Well, the temple of the God of the South Sea, and the Sea Turtle Conservation Area on the island. Perhaps the most interesting thing about Hon Cau, besides its poetic and charming scenery, is the dance of the rocks that nature has bestowed upon it. Large and small rocks are stacked haphazardly, yet they allow visitors to freely imagine many mysterious and strange shapes. Rocks are everywhere on the island, leaning against each other to form many different postures, both majestic and poetic, magnificent and unique. As the sun sets behind the mountains, the sky is suddenly painted a vibrant red. Standing on a high rock outcrop, the whole group gazed at the breathtaking scenery; not only I, but everyone was amazed by the breathtaking beauty that words cannot describe, as if wishing time would stand still.

In the evening, we sat under the starry sky, with the moon shining brightly and a gentle breeze, enjoying delicious fresh seafood prepared by the tour organizers. We chatted and laughed together by the glowing charcoal fire, and suddenly realized how peaceful life can be. Especially if you visit during the full moon, the scenery is even more breathtaking, as you and nature seem to merge into one. Therefore, camping overnight on the island was one of the most enjoyable experiences our group had. And after that trip, everyone hoped to return to Hon Cau Island someday, hoping to be lucky enough to see turtles come ashore to lay eggs or to witness the annual Fishing Festival held on the island during the full moon of the fourth lunar month.

Although Hon Cau Island is simple and unassuming, you should visit it at least once to fully appreciate its unique beauty!

According to those who organize tours to Hon Cau Island, this is the ideal time for island tours because the weather is favorable. Currently, an overnight camping tour to Hon Cau costs an average of 1.5 - 1.8 million VND per person, including food and drinks, and services such as boat trips, paddleboarding, snorkeling, crabbing, and visiting all the attractions on the island.
