In just over a week, students across the country will officially begin their longest holiday of the year. As families begin planning to take their children back to their hometowns or go on vacation , the aviation and tourism industries are entering their peak season . Since the beginning of May, Vietnam Airlines, the national airline, has offered nearly 9 million seats, equivalent to operating over 43,000 flights across its domestic and international network, serving passengers during the peak summer season from May 15th to August 15th. Both the number of flights and the number of seats offered by airlines have increased by nearly 14% compared to the same period last year.
A representative from Vietnam Airlines stated that during this year's peak summer season, the airline will operate 33,000 domestic flights with over 6.3 million seats. Compared to the regular flight schedule, the number of domestic seats will increase by more than 28%, equivalent to nearly 1.4 million additional seats. Notably, early morning and late evening flights will continue to be implemented as part of proactive measures to add more seats to the market this summer. Routes connecting Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, and tourist destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Hue, Quy Nhon, and Thanh Hoa are predicted to attract a large number of passengers in the summer of 2025. Therefore, Vietnam Airlines will focus its capacity on these routes to best serve the travel needs of the people.

Similarly, Vietjet Air also plans to provide more than 400,000 additional seats, equivalent to 1,600 flights during the peak summer season from June 1st to July 15th, on routes to and from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Hue, Quang Binh, Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa, Phu Quoc, etc. This number of flights is only about half the number of flights Vietjet served during last year's peak summer season. However, as of now, there are still quite a lot of empty seats, and the airline has prepared a plan to increase capacity in case passenger demand rises.
Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines have yet to release information about increasing flights during the summer of 2025. Nevertheless, passengers can still easily book tickets with these airlines for their upcoming summer vacation.
According to surveys, airfare prices from now until mid-July are not expected to fluctuate significantly compared to last year. Prices started to increase from the end of May and peaked in June, while buying tickets closer to the departure date now or waiting until July will offer more opportunities to travel at relatively "affordable" prices.
"My family planned to take our child to Da Nang in June, but at that time, Vietnam Airlines' weekend airfare was around 2.5 million VND/one-way, equivalent to the peak period of April 30th - May 1st. If we go this weekend or wait until next weekend, the ticket would only be around 1.5 million VND/one-way, which is just over half the price. It's been a long time since I've seen airfare drop to this level, so I'm quite surprised. I might arrange my work to go back earlier, to get a cheaper price and avoid the crowds," shared Ms. Tran Thanh Ha (resident of District 3, Ho Chi Minh City).
Domestic tourist destinations are poised for a boom during the peak summer season.

Despite being one of the most popular tourist routes, airfares on the Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang route remain quite affordable. If flying next Saturday (May 24th), Ms. Thanh Ha or other families can even buy tickets from Vietravel for less than 1 million VND/one-way. On the same day, Vietjet also has many flights priced at only 1.1 - 1.2 million VND/one-way.
However, it's worth noting that these flights depart in the late afternoon or evening, suitable for families taking their children back to their hometowns for summer vacation. For avid travelers, the ideal time frame would be between 9 AM and 4 PM. These "prime time" flights will cost several hundred thousand to nearly one million VND more per way, depending on the flight and airline.
Similarly, for routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi, Hanoi - Da Nang, Hanoi - Nha Trang, etc., flights are spread across many time slots, corresponding to a wide range of ticket prices to suit the needs of various customer segments.
Tourism promises to boom during peak season.
According to the Vietnam National Aviation Authority, during the peak summer season of 2025, Vietnamese airlines are expected to operate 68,558 domestic flights (an average of 745 flights/day), an increase of 21% and 18% respectively; providing approximately 14 million seats, an increase of 21% and 18% respectively compared to the flight schedule before the increase in flights and in the summer of 2024. Flights to/from tourist destinations (Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Quy Nhon) will be operated by airlines for more than 20,000 flights, accounting for 30% of the total number of flights operated, an increase of 32% and 20% respectively; providing nearly 4.1 million seats, an increase of 30% and 21% respectively compared to the flight schedule before the increase in flights and in the summer of 2024.
For the main routes (Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City), airlines are expected to operate 26,800 flights (accounting for 39% of the total), representing increases of 24% and 14% respectively; providing nearly 5.9 million seats, increases of 22% and 14% respectively.
The increase in the number of flights during the summer is directly proportional to the boom in the tourism industry. According to travel companies, summer tours have been bustling since mid-April. Tourists have begun researching programs and destinations to prepare for trips and vacations with friends, family, and colleagues. For the domestic market, as in previous years, most tourists consider the beach their top choice. This year, travel companies are focusing on promoting tours to destinations with amusement parks such as Ba Na Hill (Da Nang), Sun World Ha Long (Quang Ninh), VinWonders Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), and Phu Quoc (Kien Giang),... because these destinations offer a complete ecosystem of entertainment and recreation, meeting the diverse needs of many groups and suitable for family summer vacations.
To promote tourism development, especially domestic tourism, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also directed localities to strengthen tourism promotion and advertising, stimulate demand, and attract tourists in the summer of 2025. Leaders of the Tourism Department assessed that in the past period, the proactive preparation and organization of many large-scale cultural events, festivals, sports events, and art performances in localities and tourism centers, especially the cooperation of businesses, have created many new tourism products, boosting the demand for entertainment, sightseeing, and relaxation among the people. The outstanding achievements during the two consecutive Lunar New Year holidays and the April 30th - May 1st holidays are a very good stepping stone for the tourism industry to continue into the peak of the 2025 summer tourism season, which is expected to boom.
| The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) predicts a strong increase in summer 2025 for trends such as "green travel," "sustainable experiences," and "personalized journeys." Accordingly, 71% of travelers stated they prioritize environmentally friendly destinations with a commitment to sustainable development; 76% of travelers want their trips to make a positive contribution to the local community. Destinations with pristine nature, combining relaxing experiences with exploring local culture and cuisine, are increasingly preferred by travelers. |
