Multi-leg flight tickets are surprisingly cheap

Abundant tickets, diverse price range

In just over a week, students across the country will officially enter the longest holiday of the year. As families begin to plan to take advantage of the holiday to bring their children home or travel, the aviation and tourism industries are also entering peak season . Since the beginning of May, Vietnam Airlines has opened for sale nearly 9 million seats, equivalent to operating more than 43,000 flights on its domestic and international network, serving passengers during the peak summer period from May 15 to August 15. Both the number of flights and the number of seats of airlines have increased by nearly 14% compared to the same period last year.

Vietnam Airlines representative said that during the peak summer season this year, the airline will operate 33,000 domestic flights with more than 6.3 million seats. Compared to the regular operating schedule, the number of domestic seats will increase by more than 28%, equivalent to nearly 1.4 million additional seats. Notably, early morning and late evening flights will continue to be deployed as part of proactive solutions to add more seats to the market this summer. Flights connecting Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City and tourist destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Hue, Quy Nhon, Thanh Hoa are forecast to attract a large number of passengers in the summer of 2025. Therefore, Vietnam Airlines will focus on loading on these routes to best serve people's travel needs.

Similarly, Vietjet Air also plans to provide more than 400,000 seats, equivalent to 1,600 flights during the summer peak from June 1 to July 15, on routes to and from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Hue, Quang Binh, Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa, Phu Quoc, etc. This number of flights is only about half of the number of flights that Vietjet served during the summer peak last year. However, up to now, the number of empty seats is still quite abundant and the airline has prepared a plan to increase capacity in case of increased passenger demand.

Meanwhile, Bamboo Airways and Vietravel Airlines have not yet provided information about increasing flights in the summer of 2025. However, passengers can still easily book tickets on these airlines for the upcoming summer travel season.

According to the survey, airfare prices from now until mid-July have not fluctuated too much compared to last year. Airfares started to increase from the end of May and peaked in June, while if you buy tickets close to the date right now or wait until July, there will be many opportunities to travel with quite "soft" airfares.

"My family planned to take our child back to Da Nang in June, but at that time, Vietnam Airlines' airfare for the weekend was about 2.5 million VND/way, equivalent to the peak season of April 30 - May 1. If we go this weekend or wait until next weekend, the ticket will only be about 1.5 million VND/way, which is only more than half the price. It's been a long time since I've seen airfares drop to this level, so I'm quite surprised. Maybe I'll arrange my work to go back early, which is both cheaper and less crowded," said Ms. Tran Thanh Ha (living in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City).

Domestic tourist destinations promise to boom during peak summer season

As one of the hottest tourist routes, airfares from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Nang are still quite cheap. If flying next Saturday (May 24), Ms. Thanh Ha or other families can buy tickets from Vietravel for less than 1 million VND/way. On the same day, Vietjet also has many flights priced at only 1.1 - 1.2 million VND/way.

However, it should be noted that these are flights with departure times falling in the late afternoon or late evening, suitable for families taking their children home for summer vacation. For "travel enthusiasts", the appropriate time frame will fall between 9am and 4pm. These "good time" flights will cost a few hundred thousand to nearly 1 million VND/way depending on the flight and airline.

Similar to the routes Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi, Hanoi - Da Nang, Hanoi - Nha Trang... the flights are spread out over many time frames, equivalent to many ticket price ranges suitable for the needs of many customer groups.

Tourism promises booming peak season

According to the National Aviation Administration, during the peak summer period of 2025, Vietnamese airlines are expected to operate 68,558 domestic flights (an average of 745 flights/day), an increase of 21% and 18% respectively; providing approximately 14 million seats, an increase of 21% and 18% respectively compared to the flight schedule before the increase in flights and the summer of 2024. Flights to/from tourist destinations (Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Da Lat, Quy Nhon) are operated by airlines with more than 20,000 flights, accounting for 30% of the total number of flights, an increase of 32% and 20% respectively; providing nearly 4.1 million seats, an increase of 30% and 21% respectively compared to the flight schedule before the increase in flights and the summer of 2024.

For the main routes (Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City), airlines are expected to operate 26,800 flights (accounting for 39%), up 24% and 14% respectively; providing nearly 5.9 million seats, up 22% and 14% respectively.

The proportion of flights expected to increase during the summer is also proportional to the boom in the tourism industry. According to records from travel companies, since mid-April, summer tours have begun to bustle. Tourists have begun to learn about programs and tourist destinations to prepare for sightseeing and vacationing with friends, family, and colleagues at the beginning of summer. For the domestic market, like every year, most tourists consider the beach as the top choice. This year, travel companies are focusing on promoting tours to tourist destinations with entertainment areas such as Ba Na Hill (Da Nang), Sun World Ha Long (Quang Ninh), VinWonders Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) or Phu Quoc (Kien Giang), ... because these destinations have a full ecosystem of entertainment, meeting the diverse needs of many subjects, suitable for families traveling in the summer.

To promote tourism development, especially domestic tourism, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also directed localities to step up tourism promotion, advertising, stimulating demand, and attracting tourists in the summer of 2025. The leaders of the Department of Tourism assessed that in the past time, the proactive preparation and organization of many large-scale cultural events, festivals, sports, art performances, etc. in localities and tourist centers, especially the companionship of businesses, has created many new tourism products, promoting the needs of entertainment, sightseeing, and relaxation of people. The outstanding achievements in the two consecutive Lunar New Year holidays and the April 30 - May 1 holidays are a very good stepping stone for the tourism industry to continue entering the peak of the 2025 summer tourism season, which is expected to explode./.

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) predicts that the summer of 2025 will see a strong increase in the trends of "green tourism", "sustainable experiences" and "personalized travel". Accordingly, 71% of tourists said they prioritize choosing destinations that are environmentally friendly and committed to sustainable development; 76% of tourists want their trips to contribute positively to the local community. Destinations with pristine nature, combining resort experiences with exploring local culture and cuisine are increasingly preferred by many tourists.
