In the Mekong Delta, lottery tickets sell very well before, during, and after Tet (Lunar New Year), and vendors run out of tickets very quickly. Mr. Thien Khanh (Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) said that at the beginning of the new year, people often buy lottery tickets to give to relatives and acquaintances as a way of giving good luck for the year.
"If you buy lottery tickets at noon, you have to buy tickets for the next day's draw, because many people buy lottery tickets during Tet (Lunar New Year) so they have to buy them early," Mr. Khanh said.
At the beginning of the new year, many businesses hold year-end parties, and many people buy lottery tickets as gifts instead of giving them as lucky money, so lottery ticket vendors sell out quickly. Mr. Binh, a lottery ticket vendor in Ninh Kieu district, said that whenever a house has a party, he sells out all his tickets. Some people even buy 150 tickets at once, and he has none left to sell.
Every day, Mr. Trung Hieu's lottery ticket agency in Cai Rang district supplies 10,500 tickets to street vendors. The vendors sell them all by noon and immediately start selling tickets for the next day.
Meanwhile, Mr. CN, the owner of a lottery ticket agency in Vi Thanh City ( Hau Giang Province), confirmed that 100% of his agency's lottery tickets were sold out during the Tet holiday. "If you pick up the tickets in the afternoon, they're all sold out by evening. Street vendors need to order tickets 2-3 days in advance to have enough to sell," Mr. N said happily.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , a leader of Can Tho Lottery Company Limited said that the company had issued two lottery tickets during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, with sales of 150 billion VND per draw, and a 100% sales rate.
During the Lunar New Year holiday, Southern Vietnam lottery tickets increased their sales by four draws, with 15 million tickets issued per draw. This increase included one draw before Tet and three draws after Tet, from January 22nd to February 18th (corresponding to the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month to the 21st day of the 1st lunar month).
