Accordingly, the proposed ticket prices are categorized into different levels. Specifically, single-trip tickets cost 9,000 - 24,000 VND/trip; single-trip tickets paid with prepaid cards cost 7,000 - 18,000 VND/trip; one-day tickets cost 48,000 VND, three-day tickets cost 108,000 VND; monthly passes for regular passengers cost 330,000 VND/month; and monthly passes for students cost 165,000 VND.

Ho Chi Minh City's Metro Line 1 is currently in the trial run phase.
The ticket structure is based on a previous proposal from the Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MAUR). In addition, there are free and discounted tickets for priority groups as stipulated by law and the city's social welfare policies.
Regarding the proposal to waive or reduce ticket prices for special passenger groups on Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27), International Women's Day (March 8), International Children's Day (June 1), War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27), etc., it should be noted that this should only be implemented upon written approval from the relevant specialized management agency.
The Public Transport Management Center stated that the proposed fare is based on the investor's report comparing it with the current bus fare plan, and also compared with the fares of the Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro line to ensure reasonable pricing and affordability for passengers during the line's operation.
"With proposed fares ranging from 9,000 to 24,000 VND per trip, the cost of using Metro Line 1 is within the affordability range of passengers, according to research by technical support project experts," the center assessed.
However, determining the fare for Metro Line 1 needs to satisfy the conditions of attracting people to use the service, while also being affordable for the public and balancing the budget for subsidies. Since Metro Line 1 is not yet operational and is the first line to operate in Ho Chi Minh City, there are no official figures available, so the determination of costs, revenue, and subsidies is only approximate. Therefore, the above fare level is proposed by the center for a trial period. After one year of operation, a reassessment will be conducted and adjustments will be proposed to suit actual conditions.
To attract passengers, this unit also suggested that MAUR invest in upgrades to ensure the effectiveness of ticket types on the route, and research the addition of hourly fares, inter-route monthly passes, etc., in order to increase the variety of ticket types to meet the needs of different user groups.
Groundbreaking in August 2012, Ho Chi Minh City's first urban railway line, spanning 19.7 km with a total investment of over 43,700 billion VND, runs from Ben Thanh Station (District 1) to Long Binh Depot (Thu Duc City), featuring 3 underground and 11 elevated stations. The project is currently over 95% complete and is expected to be finished and operational by the end of the fourth quarter of 2023.
