Amidst the familiar landscape of historical dramas revolving around romance and fantasy, "The Ghost Stories of the Tang Dynasty" offers a fresh perspective by combining elements of investigation, history, and folk legends from the Tang Dynasty. Adapted from the novel by author Wei Feng Hua, the series leads viewers from seemingly supernatural tales to a journey of uncovering the truth through sharp deductive reasoning.

The film opens with Lu Lingfeng and Su Wuming escorting the tribute-grade Golden Peach back to Chang'an. However, upon their return to the capital, a series of events unfold as a mysterious giant bird attacks those who had eaten the Golden Peach. The investigation gradually uncovers a political conspiracy hidden behind the legend of the Black Flame Bird and the tragic fate of Liena, a young prince in exile with the appearance of a "bird-man."

As the case neared its conclusion, Chang'an was once again shaken by strange cries in the Chengfo Temple, a nursery rhyme about the reincarnation of the Heavenly Empress, and the mysterious disappearance of a young girl named Wu Yang. Each clue brought Su Wuming and Lu Lingfeng closer to long-buried secrets, where the line between legend and reality became increasingly blurred.
