Diallo had an underperforming match. |
On the evening of May 17th, Manchester United beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 at Old Trafford to secure a top 3 spot in the Premier League, but Roy Keane remained unhappy with his former team's defensive performance. The target of the Irish legend's criticism was Amad Diallo.
Analyzing the game on Sky Sports after the match, Keane was particularly annoyed by the situation that led to Morato's equalizer in the second half.
According to the former Manchester United captain, Amad was too weak in challenges, allowing Elliot Anderson to easily get past him before delivering the cross for Morato to head in the goal.
"Amad Diallo was knocked out of the ball like a child," Keane remarked sharply.
He also praised Anderson, as the Nottingham Forest midfielder had an outstanding game with two assists at Old Trafford.
Despite Manchester United's victory thanks to goals from Luke Shaw, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo, Keane believes the Red Devils' defense continues to show too many weaknesses.
"We saw some great attacking moves but also some terrible defending from MU," he added, "They had enough players back but nobody was really making decisions."
Besides Amad, Keane also expressed confusion about the decision to award Cunha's goal. Referee Michael Salisbury still gave Manchester United the goal despite VAR detecting Bryan Mbeumo's handball earlier in the play.
Nevertheless, the Manchester United legend still praised Bryan Mbeumo. The striker scored the winning goal after missing a golden opportunity earlier in the game, and also helped Bruno Fernandes reach 20 assists this season, equaling the Premier League record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
