Finding a successor team has always been a concern for the VFF (Vietnam Football Federation), as the Vietnamese national team's personnel lack consistent performance over the long term. The generation of players who played in Changzhou, now in their 30s, are no longer at their best, and many are no longer called up to the national team.
Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan, President of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), expressed his delight that after the VFF worked with representatives from the FIFA Office for Football Development, FIFA has developed plans to implement programs supporting Vietnamese football in general and youth training in particular. These projects focus on improving the quality of human resources, as well as discovering and selecting young talents.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF)'s organization of the seminar "Talent Discovery and FIFA Selection Criteria" reflects the expectation that coaches and scouts will effectively apply the criteria and methods learned to practice at clubs and localities. Simultaneously, the youth training system needs to be reviewed and standardized according to FIFA standards, especially at the U12 and U14 age groups. The VFF also aims to further strengthen cooperation with FIFA and AFC to improve the quality of training, towards the sustainable development of Vietnamese football.
According to FIFA instructor Richard Allen, in addition to theoretical content, trainees directly observe and evaluate players in action. This is considered a crucial part of bridging the gap between theory and practice. Coach Dinh The Nam, who has proven his talent in coaching national youth teams, commented on the program: “Trainees have the opportunity to access many new and modern methods in the selection and development of young players. The workshop contributes to improving knowledge and providing direction in discovering and nurturing talent for Vietnamese football.”
VFF Vice President Tran Anh Tu affirmed that, through the program, trainees gain more experience, change and standardize their thinking about "football talent," clarify the relationship between current ability and future development potential, and open up new directions in the selection and training of players.
“The recent success of the Vietnam U17 team is proof of the right direction in youth training in Vietnamese football. However, each age group has its own characteristics and needs to be considered within a continuous development process. The important thing is not just the result of one tournament, but how to create a continuous flow from U17, U19, U23 to the national team. That is the long-term goal of the strategy for developing Vietnamese youth football,” Mr. Tú emphasized.
