Golden opportunities from the green consumer market.
In the vibrant atmosphere of early spring, the organic rice fields of Tri Phai commune seem to be imbued with new life as 64.2 hectares have received European standard certification. The radiant smiles on the farmers' faces herald a prosperous and sustainable spring season in this rural area.
Mr. Ha Minh Sua, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Tri Phai Commune, happily stated: " The clean production model not only contributes to environmental protection and reduces input costs but also enhances the value of our local rice. Strict adherence to cultivation procedures helps rice products gain market acceptance, ensures stable prices, and brings joy and excitement to the farmers."
As global consumers increasingly prioritize environmentally friendly products, demanding markets such as the EU, the US, Japan, and Australia are particularly interested in seafood and rice produced using circular, chemical-free methods. The organic shrimp-rice farming model of Ca Mau has a great opportunity in this regard.

Embracing the green consumption trend, Ca Mau has established more than 27 linkage chains between businesses, cooperatives, and farmers, covering a total certified area of 37,816 hectares. Many large enterprises inside and outside the province, such as Minh Phu Seafood Group Joint Stock Company, Camimex Joint Stock Company, Nam Can Seafood Import-Export Joint Stock Company (Seanamico), Ca Mau Seafood Processing and Service Joint Stock Company (Cases), etc., participate in purchasing, processing, and exporting products that meet prestigious international certifications such as EU Organic, Naturland, ASC, BAP, and Canada Organic. From here, fragrant rice and clean shrimp confidently enter demanding markets worldwide with the reputable Ca Mau brand.
Dual benefits for both the economy and the environment.
In fact, in production areas such as Thoi Binh, Tran Van Thoi, Vinh Loc, Hong Dan, Lang Tron, Phong Hiep, etc., the organic shrimp-rice farming model is proving to be highly effective, yielding profits 1.3-1.5 times higher than monoculture production. Thanks to the less polluted water environment, tiger shrimp, crabs, and other aquatic species such as catfish and freshwater prawns have a high survival rate; meanwhile, the rice also achieves good quality and sells for 1,000-2,500 VND/kg higher than conventional rice.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dua, Deputy Director of Phong Thanh Dong Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative (Lang Tron Ward), said: " The cooperative is collaborating with Misun Group Joint Stock Company to produce organic ST24 and ST25 rice, with the sugar removed. Using rice grains renowned as the best in the world, the application of sugar removal technology aims to ensure consumer health and elevate the product's value to a new level. Currently, the product is exported to Japan and the United States, and we are preparing to expand to the Australian market. "
In particular, this model has proven effective in both rice-specialized areas and rice-shrimp farming areas; farmers are guaranteed a stable price for their products, opening up a sustainable development direction for farmers in Ca Mau.

Mr. Nguyen Van Liet, from Hamlet 1A, Phong Hiep Commune, couldn't hide his joy when mentioning the recent shrimp-rice crop, the most successful harvest his family has ever had. "The best part is that we're producing organic rice, which has high value for export. Under the rice paddies, there are tiger prawns, crabs, and freshwater prawns living naturally, which is both clean and highly productive," Mr. Liet shared. With 3.5 hectares of land, his family expects to earn over 300 million VND, a prosperous Tet holiday is fast approaching.
This is also a shared joy for many shrimp-rice farming households in Ca Mau. This environmentally friendly farming model is opening up a sustainable path, helping people stay connected to their fields and live in harmony with nature.
Long-term orientation for a prosperous and peaceful spring.
To ensure continued prosperity, Ca Mau is implementing various solutions to sustainably develop the organic shrimp-rice farming model. One of the key solutions is reviewing and finalizing the planning for 93,000 hectares of production area; rationally dividing the saline-freshwater ecological sub-regions to ensure safety for both seasons. In addition, renowned agricultural production areas such as Thoi Binh, Tran Van Thoi, Vinh Loc, Phuoc Long, etc., are being oriented to become core organic shrimp-rice farming zones in the 2026-2030 period, focusing on large-scale, clean production and strong linkages.

Mr. To Hoai Phuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: “Prestigious international certifications in the aquaculture and organic food industry such as ASC, Organic EU/USDA, and BAP are gradually bringing Ca Mau rice and shrimp further into the global market. The goal is that by 2030, Ca Mau will have approximately 40,000 hectares of shrimp-rice farming meeting international standards, accompanied by credit policies, technical assistance, and product buyback agreements, helping farmers feel secure in their production.”
Amidst the vibrant spring arriving in the southernmost tip of the country, as the saltwater and freshwater tides cycle according to the seasons, the shrimp and rice fields quietly tell their green story. Through harmony with nature, shrimp and rice not only bring prosperity but also open up a sustainable path, enabling Ca Mau to firmly align itself with the green development trends of the country and the world.
Mr. Pham Van Muoi, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, emphasized: “The total area of shrimp-rice farming in the province is currently about 90,266 hectares, concentrated in nutrient-rich areas with few pests and diseases, suitable for production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP, and organic standards. Ca Mau identifies the shrimp-rice model as one of the important foundations of ecological aquaculture and rice economy, both increasing farmers' income and ensuring sustainable, environmentally friendly agricultural development.”
