Why are specialized students in Ho Chi Minh City not allowed to take exams for excellent students in specialized subjects?

According to the regulations of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, from 2024, the city-level 12th grade excellent student exam is only for students currently in 12th grade, with academic performance and behavior in the first semester from Good or better.

In particular, students in specialized classes are not allowed to take exams in the specialized subjects they are studying, they can only register to take exams in other subjects. Students who are part of the team of excellent students participating in the national exam in January will also not be able to participate in this exam.

This new regulation of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training is attracting public attention because this may result in loss of benefits for students studying in specialized classes.

Nearly 5.000 12th grade students in Ho Chi Minh City participated in the exam to select excellent 12th grade students at the city level in the 2023-2024 school year.

Nearly 5.000 12th grade students in Ho Chi Minh City participated in the exam to select excellent 12th grade students at the city level in the 2023-2024 school year.

Talking to VOV2, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that every year, the city organizes two exams. The exam selects good students to join the city's team to participate in the national exam in October 10. In this exam, students can take the exam in the specialized subject they are studying.

The exam to select excellent students at the city level for the 2023 - 2024 school year was held on March 5. Students studying specialized subjects who are qualified and wish to continue to participate can continue to take the exam. However, these candidates are not allowed to take exams in specialized subjects.

“This is to create more opportunities for students to study specialized subjects at high schools, not to reduce their opportunities. They study specialized subjects but have already taken the specialized exam in October 10. If you want to have more achievements, you can participate in subjects that are not specialized subjects." Mr. Quoc said.

Mr. Quoc also clarified that at the October 10 exam, all students studying specialized subjects must participate in this exam, on the one hand to evaluate the quality of training but at the same time to select students to join the team. Participate in the national exam to select excellent students.

Those who pass the team will still be ranked according to their results, without losing their benefits.

Also according to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in the exams to select excellent students in grade 12 at the city level in many years, specialized students will have a greater advantage in specialized subjects due to their in-depth knowledge than non-specialized students. Therefore, the Department issued this regulation to ensure fairness between specialized and non-specialized school students.

On March 5, the exam to select excellent students in grade 3 in Ho Chi Minh City for the 12 - 2023 school year took place at 2024 exam locations: Trung Vuong High School, Bui Thi Xuan High School and Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted with the participation of 3 students. 4.730th grade student.
