On June 3rd, Khoai Lang Thang once again became the center of attention on social media when he appeared in a controversy related to TikToker Kẻ Du Mục (The Nomad). Those involved quickly spoke out, exchanged views directly, and resolved the misunderstanding within just a few hours.

The incident made many people realize that Khoai Lang Thang is often mentioned whenever debates arise in the travel content creation community.

From comparisons between travel bloggers and debates about content creation to conflicting opinions stemming from audience comments, male YouTubers have repeatedly become central figures in online discussions, even though they aren't always the ones initiating the conversation.

What happened between Sweet Potato and the Nomad?

The debate between Khoai Lang Thang and TikToker Kẻ Du Mục ended when the people involved proactively contacted each other to clarify the misunderstanding.

On the evening of June 3rd, The Nomad posted on Threads stating that he and Khoai Lang Thang had spoken directly. According to the blogger, the misunderstandings between the two have been resolved.

"After Khoai Lang Thang and I had a direct conversation, the misunderstandings and issues between us have been clarified. Both of us want to focus on creating content and delivering value rather than prolonging the recent controversy," Kẻ Du Mục shared, adding that he will remove the related post to put an end to the matter.

Right below, Khoai Lang Thang left a comment with a similar viewpoint. The YouTuber said he didn't want the meaningless arguments to escalate further, and emphasized that people working in the same field will still have many opportunities to meet or collaborate in the future.

"We're all in the same industry, and we'll inevitably meet or work together in the future. Let's just maintain harmony," he wrote.

The incident stemmed from a post by The Nomad on Threads on May 30th. Under the post, a follower left a comment stating that they preferred the vlogger's content style over Khoai Lang Thang. While asserting that "there is no standard for comparison," this person repeatedly emphasized that The Nomad was "far superior" to the famous YouTuber.

In response, The Nomad stated that he doesn't want to be compared to any other content creator. The vlogger said he is simply a traveler around the world , documenting his experiences and earning extra money for his journey, and doesn't want to chase after superiority or competition in the profession.

Later, users discovered that The Nomad liked several comments that were unfavorable to Sweet Potato, and controversy quickly erupted among different groups of viewers.

Tensions escalated when comments appeared under the post accusing The Nomad of retaining comments attacking Khoai Lang Thang but hiding or deleting counter-arguments. Meanwhile, Khoai Lang Thang also came under scrutiny for having previously "liked" a comment criticizing the hiding of comments.

On June 3rd, The Nomad posted an explanation, denying intentionally controlling comments and stating that he did not want to be dragged into online controversies. In response, Khoai Lang Thang said he only interacted with one comment because he thought someone was deliberately trying to create controversy, and added that sharing screenshots and speculations could escalate the story further.

Later, the person who initially left the comparison comment apologized. The Nomad and Sweet Potato also proactively communicated directly, confirming that the misunderstanding had been resolved and the matter was closed.

Often drawn into controversy

The incident with The Nomad is not the first time Khoai Lang Thang has become the central figure in online social media debates.

Unlike his previously reserved image, since November 2025, Khoai Lang Thang has repeatedly commented, explained, or responded directly when his name was mentioned in controversial topics. These interactions have frequently made him the center of attention whenever conflicting opinions arise.

One of the most frequently mentioned cases is the ongoing comparison between Khoai Lang Thang and Khoa Pug.

Despite the two content creators pursuing different styles, the online community often compares them, debating their travel experiences, storytelling techniques, and the level of investment in each trip. Whenever an article appears evaluating one over the other, the comments quickly turn into a heated debate between different groups of viewers.

Not only Khoa Pug, but Khoai Lang Thang has also been repeatedly dragged into discussions related to other travel bloggers, travel TikTokers, or lifestyle content creators. The common thread in these incidents is that most don't stem from his videos or direct statements, but rather from comparative posts, comments, or inferences by the online community.

Khoai Lang Thang himself has spoken out about this phenomenon. The YouTuber stated that he doesn't want to be caught up in the competition between content creators. However, given his position as one of the most prominent figures in the experiential travel sector in Vietnam, Khoai Lang Thang's name almost always comes up whenever the online community needs a "benchmark" for comparison.
