The Vietnamese-Russian joint venture Vietsovpetro, a subsidiary of the Vietnam National Energy and Industry Corporation (Petrovietnam), announced that it officially reached the milestone of producing 255 million tons of oil at 3:30 AM on June 4th.
This is a significant milestone for Vietsovpetro, nearly 40 years after June 26, 1986, when the joint venture extracted its first ton of oil from the Bach Ho field, marking the beginning of a new phase in the development of Vietnam's oil and gas industry.
According to Vietsovpetro, from the early days when there were many difficulties in terms of infrastructure, technology, and offshore exploration experience, generations of Vietnamese and Russian officials, engineers, and workers have gradually built and developed oil and gas exploration activities on the southern continental shelf.
During its operation, Vietsovpetro has not only maintained its production output but has also made its mark with many scientific and technological achievements. Among them, the discovery and exploitation of oil in the basement rock layer at the Bach Ho field is considered one of the outstanding achievements, with practical and scientific value for the oil and gas industry.
In the first quarter of 2026 alone, Vietsovpetro extracted approximately 770,000 tons of oil and condensate, over 10 million cubic meters of natural gas, and brought more than 210 million cubic meters of gas ashore to meet energy needs.
The unit reported that basic production was on track with the plan, while both gas production and gas delivered ashore exceeded the set targets.
To maintain production levels amidst the natural decline of long-established fields, Vietsovpetro has implemented various technical solutions in Block 09-1 to optimize well flow, improve production efficiency, and recover remaining reserves.
Simultaneously, exploratory and appraisal drilling activities continue to be intensified to add new reserves, creating a basis for exploitation in the coming years.
Vietsovpetro is also implementing solutions to improve the oil recovery factor (EOR), gradually shifting from a traditional extraction model to an optimized, technology-based extraction model, with the participation of units within the Petrovietnam ecosystem.
Thanks to these solutions, oil exports in the first quarter of 2026 exceeded the plan, while also making a positive contribution to budget revenue and ensuring national energy security.
