Vinh Long on a new path of development

One of the province's top priorities currently is to focus on attracting investment that aligns with its development orientation. Based on the approved planning, the province is reviewing and issuing a list of key projects, preparing the necessary conditions to attract investment, and creating momentum for new development.

The economy is recovering clearly.

According to the Provincial People's Committee, the economy continues to demonstrate a clear recovery. The socio-economic situation in 2024 achieved comprehensive development results across all sectors. By the end of the year, 21 out of 21 key indicators met or exceeded the set plan, with 8 indicators surpassing the target. Some notable achievements include a significant recovery in industrial production, with the industrial production index increasing by 13.84%; and exports exceeding US$1 billion, surpassing the target set in the Resolution for the 2021-2025 period.

In an effort to further improve the comprehensive socio-economic development policies, enhance the investment and business environment, and prioritize the people and businesses, Mr. Lu Quang Ngoi, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, stated that the provincial leadership is committed to making even greater efforts and showing more determination in directing and managing the construction of a healthy, equitable, and transparent investment and business environment. Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Lu Quang Ngoi, stated: “The province focuses on developing the agricultural economy, processing industry, services, and urban areas, linked with the development of a synchronous, modern, and climate-resilient socio-economic infrastructure system. The development space is organized rationally and harmoniously across regions, focusing on: 1 driving axis, 2 economic corridors, 3 development breakthroughs, 4 growth pillars, and 5 key tasks.”

In addition, the province has outlined seven specific groups of solutions to achieve effectiveness in socio-economic development orientation in the coming period. These include effectively implementing the provincial planning and sectoral plans; strengthening control and improving the efficiency of public investment to create conditions for attracting domestic and foreign capital; and improving infrastructure, especially transportation infrastructure.

Simultaneously, closely monitor market conditions and production and business activities to promptly and effectively implement policies and solutions to support the development of industries, thereby unlocking investment resources for production and business, and promoting socio-economic development; focus on attracting investment in large-scale, high-tech sectors and projects; develop industrial zones and clusters according to approved plans; continue to further promote tourism and develop unique tourism products;…

Vinh Long is committed to continuously improving its investment and business environment.

“Continue to improve the investment and business environment and enhance the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) and the Provincial Green Index (PGI). Support the development of the private economy, creating conditions for the private economy to truly be a driving force of the economy. Strengthen investment promotion in a more professional, proactive, focused, and realistic manner, closely adhering to the needs and realities of the province, directly reaching out to each corporation and partner, targeting specific markets and products,” emphasized Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Lu Quang Ngoi.

Leveraging differences for socio-economic development.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh assessed that Vinh Long has many foundations for good development. Geographically, Vinh Long borders seven provinces and cities; it is a regional center, and is situated between two major economic centers: Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho City. Vinh Long is also a land of outstanding people, with gentle and friendly people and a glorious revolutionary tradition… These are potentials that the province needs to exploit and develop.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh noted that Vinh Long needs to change its growth model, renew traditional growth drivers (consumption, investment, exports), and focus on new drivers, especially green transformation, green economy, digital transformation, circular economy, sharing economy, and combating climate change… these are new and inevitable trends in the world today.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh noted that, in the process of development, Vinh Long needs to prioritize the human factor as the central element, the subject, the goal, and the driving force for development. Progress and social equity should not be sacrificed for the pursuit of mere economic growth, and environmental degradation should not be allowed. Therefore, the province's planning must reflect these issues; investment should not be scattered; and a truly favorable investment and business environment should be created to attract investors – this includes institutions, infrastructure, administrative reforms, and healthy competition.
