During the recent 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2nd, many people in Thai Nguyen received Independence Day gifts early by registering on the VNeID application. This innovative approach demonstrates the potential of electronic identification in administrative reform and social welfare today.
“With just a few taps on my phone, I confirmed my registration information and received the gift from the bank transferred to my account on September 1st. Everything was very quick and easy; no need to queue or bring any documents,” shared Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thanh, a resident of Phan Dinh Phung ward. This is the most populous ward in the province after the merger, so the application of technology has greatly reduced the workload for the local government.
Previously, Thai Nguyen province had implemented a public consultation process on amending and supplementing several articles of the 2013 Constitution through VNeID. Ms. Duong Thi Xuan, Secretary of the Party Cell of residential group 9A, Duc Xuan ward, said: "Most residents in the group have already completed VNeID level 2 identification, and their general level of education is quite high, so there are basically many advantages when conducting the public consultation."
Using the VNeID electronic identity card provides maximum convenience for citizens. Users can replace their chip-embedded citizen identity cards and other integrated documents such as driver's licenses, vehicle registration, health insurance cards, tax identification numbers, etc. With just the application on their phones, citizens can declare their health status, carry out administrative procedures, make cashless payments, and even provide feedback and suggestions regarding security and public order.

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hoa, a resident of Dong Hy commune, shared: "As soon as the police announced it, I registered and activated my VNeID account at level 2 and found it very convenient. Integrating documents into one electronic account is really convenient. Thanks to the VNeID application, I can complete many procedures that previously required carrying multiple personal documents."
For government agencies, VNeID significantly reduces the time and cost of storing and printing information, while accurately verifying citizen information. It also serves as a platform for handling administrative procedures online, limiting the need for citizens to travel multiple times.
For each level of electronic identity verification, the VNeID application has developed corresponding services and utilities to serve the people. At level 1 verification on VNeID, people can declare their health status and vaccinations. At level 2, the application can integrate many important documents to replace hard copies, including citizen identification cards, temporary residence permits, driver's licenses, vehicle registration, social insurance numbers, dependent information, marital status, etc.
Despite its many advantages, VNeID is not yet frequently used in administrative transactions, electronic payments, and especially for submitting complaints about security and order, reporting crimes, and denouncing criminal activities.
Some people in remote areas are not yet proficient in information technology, which creates difficulties in using VNeID to replace traditional documents.
To ensure that people understand, know, and effectively utilize the benefits of digital technology, units, localities, and community digital technology groups need to strengthen propaganda and guidance on the features of VNeID; encourage people to activate VNeID at level 2 and use it regularly in transactions and applications in their lives.
The successful implementation of electronic identification and digital services is considered a key solution to reduce administrative procedures, ensure social welfare, and serve citizens more effectively.
