On the morning of May 25, according to a separate source from Gia Dinh People's Hospital (HCMC), a 5-year-old man (living in Thu Duc City) (one of three adult patients with botulinum poisoning from eating sausages) died after active treatment.
Accordingly, on May 15, this man went to Gia Dinh People's Hospital for emergency after eating a type of fish sauce that had been kept for a long time.
The patient was sampled for PCR testing at the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology in Ho Chi Minh City and determined to have botolinum poisoning. The patient was actively treated but had severe complications, multi-organ failure, cardiac arrest and did not survive.
Notably, last night (May 24), 5 bottles of Botulinum Antitoxin Heptavalent were sent from the warehouse of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Switzerland to Ho Chi Minh City.
These drugs were distributed to 3 hospitals. Cho Ray Hospital, where 2 cases of botulinum poisoning were being treated, had to be ventilated and received 2 vials; People of Gia Dinh received 1 bottle, Children 2 received 3 bottles.
Like Newspaper Workers Previously, the Health Department of Thu Duc City said that after receiving information that someone had botulinum poisoning from eating sausage from a street vendor, the authorities checked and asked this sausage production facility to close and immediately stop operating.
All 3 patients were exposed to suspected food sources on May 13. In particular, two siblings (5 and 18 years old) ate bread with grilled pork rolls (treated at Cho Ray Hospital) and a 26-year-old man ate a long-lasting fish sauce (treated at Gia Dinh People's Hospital).
