Leading global content creator MrBeast has expressed concern that AI could threaten the jobs and incomes of millions of online creators. Despite having experimented with the technology, he calls this a “frightening time” for the content creation industry.

In a post on his personal page, MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, questioned the impact of AI-generated video on the “millions of creators who make a living” from online platforms. With over 634 million followers and an estimated $85 million in earnings in 2024, every word he speaks carries significant influence across the industry.

Therefore, when the top-ranked YouTube figure publicly expressed concerns, many creators became even more uneasy.

MrBeast's comments came after OpenAI launched Sora 2, a new version of its AI-powered video and audio creator, along with a mobile app that allows users to create and share TikTok-style AI videos. The app quickly topped the US App Store charts just days after its release, demonstrating the strong appeal of the new technology.

Meanwhile, YouTube is also actively leveraging AI. The platform has introduced a range of AI-powered creative tools, including the ability to create videos using Veo models, transform still images into moving footage, apply different visual styles, or automatically trim highlights from live videos.

MrBeast himself has experimented with AI in his work. Earlier this year, he launched an AI-powered video thumbnail creation tool through the Viewstats platform. However, the tool faced backlash from fans and designers alike, who argued it could take away jobs from humans.

Later, MrBeast removed this feature and stated that it would be replaced with links to real artists so that creators could place orders directly.

Although AI opens up new creative opportunities, the tech industry and creative community remain divided. Some argue that AI tools will make content production easier for everyone, while others believe that human creativity remains the core element in creating quality products.

Many social media users have also expressed frustration with the growing wave of AI-generated videos, calling them worthless, low-quality content (slop).
