Standing firm on the border

As the year draws to a close, returning to the units stationed along the border, listening to the soldiers share stories of training, patrolling, and defending the land, we clearly feel the joy at the achievements. Each soldier strives to live up to the trust of the Party and the people.

Proud of the traditions of Battalion 519

The New Year's atmosphere at Battalion 519, Regiment 893, Provincial Military Command was vibrant yet warm. Officers and soldiers were proud of the unit's traditions – one of the armed forces of Kien Giang province (before the merger) that achieved many victories and contributed to the liberation of their homeland.

In 1972, following the policy of the Rach Gia Provincial Party Committee, Battalion 519 was established on May 19th – the 82nd anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth. Over more than half a century of building and fighting, the unit has been re-established twice, always remaining absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland, and the People. Captain Huynh Van Trong – Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of Battalion 519 – shared: “Inheriting the glorious traditions of previous generations, today's officers and soldiers always uphold a high sense of responsibility, preserving and promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, meeting the requirements of the mission in the new situation.”

In 2025, the situation along the border, while stable, still harbored potential complexities such as land disputes, complaints, resistance to law enforcement, and illegal aircraft operations. The unit's dispersed deployment across border communes, wards, and islands posed difficulties for command and control. However, with high determination, Battalion 519 successfully and outstandingly completed its mission. The unit strictly maintained combat readiness, ensured reliable communication, and promptly and comprehensively updated its combat documentation system. Patrol and protection plans for key targets and important political events were implemented safely and effectively.

Standing firm on the island

The 7th Mixed Company of the 519th Battalion, stationed in Tien Hai island commune, is responsible for training, combat readiness, and firmly defending Hon Doc (Hon Tre). Lieutenant Nguyen Le Anh Quoc, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of the 7th Mixed Company, stated that the unit closely follows the instructions of its superiors, organizes excellent physical training; effectively implements measures to prevent heatstroke and heat exhaustion; and maintains a training participation rate of 98.8%.

With the same enthusiastic spirit, Company 5 of Battalion 519, stationed in Ha Tien ward, strictly maintained its 2025 training program. Lieutenant Le Van Thum, Party Secretary and Political Officer of Company 5, said: "We led the implementation of technical shooting exercises and comprehensive tactical drills, achieving good and excellent results, ensuring absolute safety for personnel and equipment."

In all units of Battalion 519, political and ideological education is emphasized. Activities celebrating holidays, festivals, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Southern Vietnam, the 80th anniversary of National Day, and the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of the armed forces of Military Region 9 were organized solemnly and practically. The "Determined to Win" emulation movement was intensified, with 12 collectives and 48 individuals in the entire Battalion achieving outstanding results and receiving awards. Civilian outreach work continued to be effective; the Battalion supported the construction of one house for comrades in need, with a budget of 60 million VND. Logistics and technical support ensured full provision of standard allowances for soldiers; agricultural production remained stable, and the health rate of soldiers reached 98.6%.

Captain Huynh Van Trong stated that the achievements of the past year serve as motivation for the unit to strive for the new year. “In 2026, the Battalion is determined to continue promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style; and to uphold the qualities of the Ho Chi Minh's soldiers in the new era. The unit will continue to strictly maintain combat readiness; strengthen forecasting and situational awareness to avoid being caught off guard. At the same time, we will focus on improving the quality of training and exercises; uphold discipline, and strive to successfully complete our tasks, creating a foundation for the successful implementation of the resolution for the 2025-2030 term.”
