On the morning of May 26th, the Vo Hong Son Center for the Education of Children with Disabilities (located in Cho Chua Town, Nghia Hanh District, Quang Ngai Province ) held its closing ceremony for the 2022-2023 school year.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha presented certificates of merit and awards to disabled students at the Vo Hong Son Center for the Education and Nurturing of Disabled Children.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Director of the Vo Hong Son Center for the Care and Education of Children with Disabilities, in the 2022-2023 school year, the center faced many difficulties in providing free care and education for hundreds of children with disabilities.
The center's facilities are deteriorating year after year, requiring maintenance, repairs, and replacements to meet the demands of innovative teaching methods and approaches suitable for children with disabilities. Meanwhile, the center's revenue is unstable, fluctuating between periods of income and expenses. Since revenue is prioritized to support the children, despite support from leaders at all levels, businesses, and philanthropists, the center still faces difficulties in maintaining a stable operation.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, presented certificates of merit and gifts at the closing ceremony of the 2022-2023 school year.
However, with a team of 34 enthusiastic, dedicated, and compassionate teachers, the center overcame difficulties in the 2022-2023 school year to provide free education for 122 children with disabilities. During the school year, 12 students in the lower secondary level achieved good or excellent academic results, while the rest were average. In the primary school level, 33 students achieved excellent or satisfactory results, while the rest were satisfactory or needed improvement.
Children with disabilities receive end-of-year school awards.
Regarding vocational training, this year the Vo Hong Son Center for Children with Disabilities has 45 students enrolled. Of these, 8 have been transferred to the second facility (in Trung An commune, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City), 12 are working in the vocational workshop, and 25 are learning sewing and embroidery.
With the sewing practice class starting in October 2022, the students have so far produced and processed thousands of bed sheets, pillowcases, 1,080 pencil cases, pot holders, children's clothing, backpacks, items for the performing arts group, embroidered pictures, decorative keychains, generating revenue of over 49.8 million VND .
During the past school year, the Vo Hong Son Center for the Education of Children with Disabilities also organized many exchange, cultural, and artistic activities to support the children in developing their talents and communication and social skills.
The District Party Committee and People's Committee of Cu Chi District, Ho Chi Minh City, provide support to the Vo Hong Son Center for the Education and Nurturing of Children with Disabilities.
The center, together with the parents' association, organized a field trip to the Son My historical site and recreational activities at My Khe beach (Quang Ngai) for the children. Through these activities, disabled children quickly integrated with their peers, acquired knowledge and skills in eating, living in an orderly manner, taking care of themselves, and being self-reliant in daily life and hygiene.
To help children with disabilities improve every day, the teachers at the center have wholeheartedly been close to them, showing them love and care, guiding them step by step, and assessing them according to their abilities and needs in order to create accurate individualized educational plans.
The Vietnam Children's Protection Fund provides financial support to the Vo Hong Son Center for the Education and Care of Children with Disabilities.
At the closing ceremony of the school year, philanthropists, organizations, and individuals nationwide donated over 2.5 billion VND to the Vo Hong Son Center for the Education of Children with Disabilities. This is a significant resource that will help this humanitarian center maintain its free education and care for children with disabilities in the new school year.
