Beyond its "symbolic" nature

After 15 years of participating in Earth Hour, the act of collectively switching off unnecessary electrical devices for one hour is gradually becoming commonplace. However, many still view it as a highly symbolic act with little practical value.

Beyond its

As long as perspectives remain divided, reaching a consensus on electricity conservation is very difficult. We all know that the electricity behind each household's meter is considered private property, purchased by the owner, so how it is used is a personal right. If communication efforts fail to change consumer awareness, recommendations from authorities will not easily gain the sympathy, understanding, and support of the community.

In recent days, a group of young people in Hac Thanh ward have been spontaneously going around reminding everyone on Saturday, March 28th, that it's Earth Hour and they should turn off their lights. Many people have been watching with strange expressions. Some have questioned whether these boys have any psychological problems that would warrant such a public service initiative.

Turning off the lights for an hour in response to Earth Hour each year may seem like a symbolic act, but it is gradually becoming a measure of global civic awareness, spreading a green lifestyle as this year's Earth Hour slogan says: "Green Innovation - Green Future." To convey the purpose of recommending energy conservation, Earth Hour is always associated with a meaningful slogan. However, that is only a message on paper, on the internet. What is important is that people take real action so that it is not just a slogan on paper mentioned during the short 60 minutes of Earth Hour each year, but a constant presence in their thoughts, so that saving electricity truly becomes a habit and an essential need for everyone.

From the message of Earth Hour 2026: "Green Innovation - Green Future," organizations have gone beyond simply calling for electricity conservation and elevated it to a development strategy: To have a sustainable future, people must innovate their thinking and be creative in their way of life, production, and consumption. The image of a group of children reminding families and businesses along the way to turn off their lights during this year's Earth Hour nationwide makes us think. The boys' actions may be amusing to some, but they symbolize the awareness and responsibility of global citizens in the fight against environmental pollution and the risk of energy shortages.

If everyone demonstrates that their thoughts and actions are truly "illuminated" during the hour when electrical devices are switched off, it is believed that new values will emerge, transcending the "symbolic" nature of Earth Hour to become genuine values that contribute to building a greener life.
