Editorial: "Rapid progress" today

Half a century has passed, but the Great Victory of Spring 1975 remains a source of immense pride for every Vietnamese person. The historical lessons from the resistance war against the US, for national liberation, retain their value in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, especially as our country is pursuing its aspiration to enter a new era of development: an era of breakthrough development, successfully building a socialist Vietnam that is strong, prosperous, democratic, just, civilized, thriving, and happy.

Seizing strategic opportunities and acting with "speed, boldness, and decisive victory" in the spirit of "one day equals 20 years" was the guiding principle in the Spring 1975 General Offensive and Uprising of our nation. This principle, along with the strength of national unity, led to a great victory – a glorious milestone, ushering the country into a new era, with the entire nation transitioning to socialism with immense achievements. In particular, after nearly 40 years of implementing the Doi Moi (Renovation) process, Vietnam is highly regarded by friends around the world , as the 13th National Congress of the Party affirmed: Our country has never before possessed such a foundation, potential, position, and international prestige as it does today.

However, frankly speaking, the country has not yet developed as expected; there is a risk of falling into the middle-income trap and lagging behind in science and technology... Therefore, the Party and the State have determined to lead the country into a new era of development, catching up with, progressing alongside, and standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's leading powers.

To successfully achieve this lofty goal, more than ever, we must apply and maximize the value of the historical lesson of seizing strategic opportunities and acting "swiftly, boldly, and decisively" 50 years ago, with strategic policies, decisions, and groundbreaking actions and steps.

We are reorganizing administrative units and building a two-tiered local government; resolutely reforming the organizational structure of the political system to be lean, strong, efficient, effective, and effective.

We are establishing a new growth model; building a modern national education system on par with the region and the world; making breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation, and national digital transformation; considering the development of the private economy as the most important driving force of the economy, determined to achieve a growth rate of 8% or higher by 2025, creating momentum for double-digit growth in the next period; striving to become a developing country with modern industry and high middle income by 2030, and a developed country with high income by 2045.

We are striving to provide comprehensive social welfare, ensuring that no one is left behind, through many excellent and practical policies that have gained the people's approval and support.

All tasks were carried out decisively and thoroughly in the spirit of a revolution, "running and lining up at the same time," but surely, systematically, and with the highest efficiency. This is about leveraging the historical lesson of "speed, boldness, and decisive victory" in the new stage of development, not only ensuring that every opportunity is seized promptly but also turning crisis into opportunity; avoiding passivity and surprise under all conditions and circumstances.

The global and regional situation is evolving rapidly, complexly, and unpredictably; the risk of conflict, war, and great power competition is becoming increasingly intense... In this context, we must thoroughly understand the lesson of constantly grasping the situation, seizing strategic opportunities to formulate correct, flexible, and effective policies and strategies with the highest goal of firmly protecting national and ethnic interests; always proactively defending the Fatherland early and from afar, "preserving the country before it is in danger."

The entire military has been and continues to strive to build a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army in the direction of "lean, efficient, and strong," serving as the core in the cause of consolidating national defense and firmly protecting the Fatherland.

Our entire nation has been united, and we must be even more united; acting in unison and striving together under the wise leadership of the Party, because this is the invincible strength that will enable the country to overcome all difficulties and challenges and move steadily forward in the new era of development.

The lyrics of the song "Liberating the South": "The nation's destiny has arrived/ The dawn shines everywhere/ Building a bright and prosperous nation for generations to come" and the national anthem: "Forward! Let's move forward! Our Vietnamese nation will endure" are rallying and urging our entire nation to uphold the glorious revolutionary heroic tradition, unite, strive, and contribute so that our sacred Vietnam will become ever more radiant and beautiful!
