Forces from the Quang Nham commune's marine militia platoon participated in training activities in 2025.
Recently, the District Military Command organized the opening ceremony for the 2025 training course for the Quang Nham Commune Maritime Militia Platoon. Over 16 days, the maritime militia platoon will be equipped with and updated on the basic content of laws regarding the political security situation and social order and safety in Vietnam's maritime areas and the locality. The tasks of the maritime militia include participating in protecting maritime sovereignty and islands in the new situation; conducting propaganda and mobilization work among the people to resolve some complex situations in the locality; and implementing the strategy for sustainable development of Vietnam's marine economy until 2030, with a vision to 2045...
Commander of the Quang Nham Commune Military Command, Doan Van Hieu, said: "Participating in the maritime militia training course, the maritime militia platoon was thoroughly trained in military skills such as target shooting at sea; camouflage of personnel, weapons, equipment, and vehicles; some regulations on signals and codes for coordination at sea; procedures for inspecting and apprehending ships violating Vietnam's maritime sovereignty; some methods of combat and defense operations of the maritime militia; squads and platoons for engaging enemy landings by sea... This contributes to improving combat readiness and meeting defense requirements in various situations."
Currently, the province has 6 platoots and 39 squads of maritime militia. Along with being fully equipped with support equipment, communication systems, and rescue tools, the annual training for the maritime militia is organized systematically and effectively, adhering to the training motto "Basic, practical, and effective."
Since the beginning of the year, the Provincial Military Command has coordinated with units and localities to organize many intensive training courses for maritime militia, especially for fishermen directly engaged in offshore fishing. The training takes place at fishing ports and harbors, close to the practical realities of fishing operations, allowing maritime militia forces to learn and practice simultaneously, improving their skills in handling real-life situations such as detecting intrusive vessels, coordinating rescue operations, and dealing with fires and explosions at sea. Through inspections and evaluations, the quality of training for maritime militia forces has improved; 100% of trainees met the requirements, with 75% achieving good or excellent results, ensuring absolute safety for personnel and equipment. One of the highlights in maritime militia training in recent times is the close integration between the development of the marine economy and the building of a comprehensive national defense posture. Many fishermen and boat owners, after receiving training, have volunteered to join the maritime militia, both engaging in fishing and acting as "eyes and ears" for the armed forces, promptly reporting any unusual situations at sea.
In addition, the Provincial Military Command also organized joint exercises with other forces in simulated situations such as natural disasters, rescuing fishing vessels in distress, or handling conflicts at sea. This enhanced the combat capabilities and coordination between the forces.
To improve the skills and combat capabilities of the maritime militia, the Military Commands of districts with maritime militia forces have closely coordinated with border guard posts and coast guard to strengthen training with many important contents. These include focusing on key areas such as: the peaceful evolution and subversive plots of hostile forces; the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; the duties of the maritime militia in protecting maritime sovereignty; observation, detection, location identification, and reporting procedures; procedures for inspecting and apprehending vessels violating maritime law; some defensive combat methods of the maritime militia; martial arts training; and accurate target shooting at sea...
Besides training, the Provincial Military Command regularly takes care of and ensures that all entitlements and standards for the maritime militia force are fully provided according to State regulations; ensuring that 100% of maritime militia members have health insurance, coordinating with relevant departments and localities to mobilize support for building houses for comrades, and creating jobs for relatives and families of militia members facing difficulties...
Playing a pivotal role in all maritime activities, the Thanh Hoa maritime militia has been actively venturing out to sea, proactively coordinating with other forces to create a healthy fishing environment for fishermen, contributing to the nationwide effort to further develop all resources and potential, focusing on socio-economic development while affirming and firmly protecting the sovereignty of the homeland's seas and islands.
