Building a home, fostering trust.

It began with dilapidated houses swaying in the wind, and ended with the overwhelming happiness of poor and near-poor people moving into sturdy homes. Joining hands to eliminate temporary and leaky houses is not just a journey, but also a testament to the determination, responsibility, and the spirit of "mutual support" spreading throughout Long An province.

From determination to action

With the motto "only talk about doing, never about retreating," the emulation movement " Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province by 2025 " was launched as a powerful call to action.

In Tan Thanh district, immediately after the movement was launched, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district promptly reviewed and clearly identified the support needs of the people. As a result, 58 households classified as poor or near-poor needed support for building and repairing houses.

The movement was implemented vigorously not only through determination, but also thanks to the collective efforts and contributions from the community.

Responding to the compassionate call of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh : "Everyone contributes what they can, everyone contributes their labor, everyone contributes their resources," organizations, individuals, and philanthropists in the district have joined hands with the local government and the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels to build, repair, and hand over new houses to the people, imbued with heartfelt kindness.

The Tân Thạnh district is resolutely implementing the campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for its residents, adhering strictly to the principle of "only discussing action, never retreating."

The Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tan Thanh District, Vo Minh Duong, affirmed: "With a high sense of responsibility, the district has assigned specific and clear tasks, ensuring five clear points (clear person, clear task, clear progress, clear results, and clear responsibility). Thanks to this, the district has completed the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses according to the set targets and plans."

Entering the fray with determination.

In Tan An City, the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is also being implemented decisively and comprehensively. The Steering Committee for the Elimination of Temporary and Dilapidated Houses at all levels in the city has held many meetings to promptly resolve difficulties and ensure that each stage and step is carried out according to the correct procedures and schedule.

Thanks to decisive action, the city has so far completed the construction and repair of 54 houses for people classified as poor, near-poor, or in difficult circumstances. The total cost of implementation is over 3.9 billion VND, sourced from the "For the Poor" Fund and social mobilization.

Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tan An City, Nguyen Quoc Cuong, shared: “With its consultative role, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels closely coordinates with member organizations, assigning clear tasks to mobilize the participation of the entire political system. From there, the movement spreads deeply and widely; the spirit of great solidarity , national unity, and fraternal love is promoted, working together to ensure that vulnerable people have new, warm, and compassionate homes.”

In implementing the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province by 2025" launched by the Provincial People's Committee, Tan Khanh ward actively carried out the review. Besides supporting and building houses, the ward government, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and political and social organizations also mobilized philanthropists to donate household equipment, appliances, and necessities to families during the handover ceremony of new houses. This movement has profound humanitarian significance, demonstrating the spirit of "leaving no one behind," contributing to improving the quality of life for the people.

A new home, a new life.

Having lived for many years in a dilapidated house, Mr. Pham Van Thuong (Nhon Ninh commune, Tan Thanh district) never dared to dream of having a proper home. Wobbly wooden pillars and leaky thatched walls were the daily reality his family faced. The joy came unexpectedly when his family received 80 million VND in support to build a new, sturdy house.

"Without the help of the Party, the State, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the collective efforts of the community, I don't know when my family would have been able to have a decent place to live like we do now," Mr. Thuong shared, his voice choked with emotion, his eyes shining with hope for life.

Mr. Ha Thanh Vu's family (Tan Khanh ward, Tan An city) has also recently moved into a new house. Their previous house was dilapidated, causing him constant worry every rainy season.

“As soon as the house was finished, I moved in right away, I was so happy! If we had to rely on ourselves, I don't know when my family would have been able to rebuild our house. From now on, my family no longer lives in constant fear whenever there is heavy rain or strong winds. Now my family feels secure and has more motivation to strive for a stable life ,” Mr. Vu said with radiant joy.

Sharing in the joy of receiving support for house construction is the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Ngan, a poor household in Vinh Tri commune, Vinh Hung district. His family had been living in a dilapidated house for many years. The rotting roof tiles, no longer sufficient to protect them from the sun and rain, have now been replaced with a sturdy corrugated iron roof, bringing Mr. Ngan to tears of joy.

"The new house is like a dream come true. Without the help of the government and the community, I probably wouldn't have been able to rebuild such a sturdy home," Mr. Ngan confided.

The case of Mr. Nguyen Hong Quang (Thanh Hoa town, Thanh Hoa district) is also one of the most touching stories. His family owns no land, and all five members work as laborers to make ends meet.

For many years, he lived in a dilapidated house but lacked the means to rebuild or repair it. Thanks to a grant of 80 million VND, his family was finally able to build a new house.

Mr. Quang said excitedly, "Having a stable place to live, my family will now work hard to gradually improve our lives, so as not to disappoint this kind and generous help."

The families of Mr. Thuong, Mr. Vu, Mr. Ngan, and Mr. Quang are just a few examples among hundreds of poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households in the province who have been empowered to rise above their circumstances through the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses.

Reportedly, the Provincial People's Committee has approved a list of 208 poor and near-poor households to receive support for the construction and repair of temporary and dilapidated houses, with a total budget of over 16.1 billion VND.

Each home, whether built or renovated, is not only a place to live but also a solid foundation for many.

The support for house construction and repair has been implemented correctly, targeting the right beneficiaries, and ensuring progress and quality. The Steering Committee, from the provincial to the grassroots level, has directly supervised, inspected, and monitored the house construction closely, ensuring that the set goals and plans are met.

As of May 5, 2025, 88 houses have been completed (80 new constructions, 8 renovations), and 120 houses are under construction (114 new constructions, 6 renovations). Local authorities are committed to eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses before May 15, 2025.

With the decisive involvement of all levels, sectors, and localities, and the joint efforts of the community, the emulation movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province by 2025" has been implemented according to schedule.

Each home built or renovated is not only a place to live but also a solid foundation for countless dreams, a testament to the solidarity and determination for a prosperous and happy life for those less fortunate. It is also the starting point for a new life – stable, warm, full of faith and hope.
