(QBĐT) - "Blank areas" in terms of communication infrastructure create a widening gap between remote and rural areas and the plains and central regions. This gap is gradually narrowing thanks to efforts to eliminate these "blank areas" and fill the void through improved communication connectivity.
The village "welcomes" the waves...
Like many villages in Thuong Trach commune (Bo Trach district), Cu Ton village has been a "blank area" in terms of communication for many years. Without electricity, mobile phone coverage, or internet access to connect with the outside world, the lives of the people here are almost entirely confined to their village.
Previously, to participate in social activities together, Y Don and the other women in the village had to go to each other's houses to call each other. But since the beginning of 2025, everything has changed. Thanks to the internet, she and the people here can use smartphones to learn about life outside their homes and gain more knowledge.
Unable to hide his joy, Y Don shared: "Now that we have phone signal, we can call or exchange information easily, without having to run from house to house like before. I saw on my phone that they grow vegetables, raise chickens and ducks, etc., and I wish I could do the same, to have a better life!"
Since 2022, a mobile base transceiver station (BTS) has been built near Cu Ton village. However, its power is weak, only meeting the minimum communication needs of Con Roang Border Guard Post, the Provincial Border Guard, and Cooc village. In January 2025, the station was upgraded and added 4G broadcasting, thus expanding coverage to Cu Ton village.
According to Deputy Political Officer Nguyen Khanh Toan of Con Roang Border Guard Station, since the expansion of mobile phone coverage in the commune, people have been able to access information and their awareness levels have continuously improved. For the Border Guard force, the Viettel network has facilitated intelligence gathering among the people and made coordination with other forces more convenient, contributing to ensuring security and order in the area under their responsibility.
Across thousands of "white zones" of coverage.
In mid-March, we accompanied a delegation from Viettel Quang Binh to inspect the newly constructed and upgraded BTS stations along the 20 Quyet Thang road, in the two communes of Tan Trach and Thuong Trach. Our first stop was the BQH 0355-12 station at km18, which was built and began broadcasting on January 10, 2025.
Pham Quoc Dung, Head of Infrastructure Department, Viettel Quang Binh, shared: "At this location, we are carefully considering how to accelerate the progress and quickly put the BTS station into operation to serve the people and tourists who come to offer incense at the memorial monument for martyr and nurse Nguyen Thi Sang in Tan Trach commune. The construction process must preserve the landscape and not encroach upon the core area of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. Because there is no grid electricity yet, the station is currently using a generator to maintain operation."
At kilometer 52, the QBH 0335-17 base station, located on a high hill in Co Do village (Thuong Trach commune), is being urgently completed and is expected to be operational and broadcasting by the end of March 2025. According to the design, the station will provide wide coverage to five villages in the commune: Co Do, 51, Cham Pu, Noong Moi, and Noong Cu.
It is known that, prior to the 19th session of the 18th Provincial People's Council, term 2021-2026, voters in Thuong Trach commune petitioned the province to invest in BTS stations to provide mobile coverage for these villages, and to increase the transmission and reception capacity of the already invested stations to cover the entire commune, so that people can access information and communication, especially in emergency situations such as illness, natural disasters, etc.
The commissioning of the BTS station in Co Do village in the near future will expand mobile coverage to "white areas" in the commune, helping to narrow the gap between the mountainous and lowland regions, as desired by the voters of Thuong Trach commune.
Platform for driving digital transformation
Tan Trach and Thuong Trach communes were previously "blank areas" in terms of electricity and mobile phone coverage. Thanks to the attention of the Party, the State, and the provincial leadership, the lives of the people here are changing as the power grid and mobile phone coverage are gradually reaching the villages.
To date, Viettel Quang Binh has installed and put into operation 8 BTS stations in 2 communes to serve the communication needs of the people as well as the direction and management work of the Party committees, government at all levels and armed forces in the area. In 2025, Viettel plans to continue surveying and building stations in villages that still lack coverage in these 2 communes.
“The efforts to boost investment in building BTS stations in border areas, remote areas, and areas inhabited by ethnic minorities by telecommunications enterprises, including the pioneering unit Viettel Quang Binh, not only serve the information needs of the people and contribute to socio -economic development, but also have great significance in fulfilling national defense and security tasks; it is an important factor in developing digital government, digital economy, and digital society in this region,” affirmed Pham Thanh Tan, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology.
Lieutenant Colonel Phan Xuan Hong, Director of Viettel Quang Binh, stated: "As a state-owned enterprise under the Ministry of National Defense, with a socially responsible business approach, the unit has covered and served 98.7% of the population in the province. In the future, with the larger-scale administrative reorganization, information technology will become even more important in leadership and management. In the spirit of 'when technology moves forward, no one is left behind,' Viettel will continue to partner with the province in developing the network and coverage to remote areas, striving to serve 100% of the population; fulfilling national security and defense tasks, economic development, social welfare, and ensuring infrastructure to support digital transformation. Furthermore, we will be pioneers in continuing to invest in 5G coverage in key areas of the province to serve telecommunications, especially the digital transformation, and facilitate services requiring high bandwidth." big" .
| “Tan Trach commune now has mobile phone coverage in the commune center and Doong village, but the connection is not stable. Doong village, in particular, relies on solar power, so communication is often interrupted. Managing and processing documents on the system or email in Tan Trach is still difficult, significantly impacting the achievement of Project 06's goals and digital transformation. We hope the province will pay attention and invest in extending the power grid to Doong village and stabilizing telecommunication connections in the area so that the commune can develop further,” shared Nguyen Van Dai, Secretary of the Tan Trach Commune Party Committee. |
