Nghe An in the new wind

“The Hung Kings built the nation, and we, their descendants, must together preserve it!” – This admonition from President Ho Chi Minh not only affirms the immense contributions of the Hung Kings in “opening and building the nation” but also serves as a constant reminder to the entire Party and people to uphold the traditions of the descendants of Lac Hong, preserve the beautiful land, and bring our country to stand alongside the great powers of the world.

Like every Vietnamese person, these days, the people of Nghe An are eagerly turning their thoughts towards their "roots" with gratitude for the contributions of the Hung Kings who founded and established the nation... Even more joyfully, Nghe An - the birthplace of President Ho Chi Minh - is now facing many new opportunities and prospects to rise even stronger.

Returning to our "roots" multiplies the spiritual value of solidarity.

Arriving in Kim Lien (Nam Dan district) on a morning in early March of the lunar calendar, as the first rays of sunlight spread across the cornfields glistening with dew, the birthplace of President Ho Chi Minh appears as a bright picture of peace and prosperity. Along the lush green rural roads are lotus ponds beginning to bloom, their fragrance mingling with the footsteps of people returning to their roots.

Under the familiar thatched roofs, we were all moved as the tour guide recounted the childhood of President Ho Chi Minh… Returning from distant Germany after more than 30 years abroad, Mr. Phan Thanh Duc (a Vietnamese expatriate in Germany) shared: “After so many years in a foreign land, I only hoped that my extended family could come back here together to educate our children and grandchildren about the traditions and history of nation-building. From there, we can increase national pride and a clearer awareness of the responsibility to protect the homeland in each individual.”

Amidst the crowds entering Uncle Ho's maternal garden in Hoang Tru village, Mr. Le Tung (from Hai Phong City) could not hide his emotion: "Offering incense at Uncle Ho's altar, I am even more reminded of his immense contributions to the Vietnamese nation. Especially when viewing the exhibited photographs of Uncle Ho, I understand more about his life and career – a great yet humble personality."

Le Thanh Bach (a student at Hanoi Law University) and his friends were also present at the Kim Lien Historical Site from early morning. “As a young Party member and a student, I feel I need to strive harder in my studies and research to be worthy of the contributions of previous generations and of President Ho Chi Minh who painstakingly built this site,” Bach shared.

With a spirit of innovation, determination, and unwavering effort, we believe that Nghe An province will overcome all difficulties and challenges, turning its great aspirations into reality; achieving the goal of becoming a regional center in the North Central region in several fields… At the same time, it will be one of the provinces making responsible and active contributions to the new era – the era of striving for strong, civilized, and prosperous development of the Vietnamese nation.

About 12km from Hoang Tru, along National Highway 46, lies the Hong Son Historical and Cultural Relic site – the only temple in Vinh City dedicated to the Hung Kings. Arriving before the main festival day, the atmosphere at Hong Son Temple seemed even more vibrant with banners, slogans, and festive flags brightly displayed… Carefully arranging fruits on a plate, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu from Vinh City shared: "Every year on the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day, even though I can't go to Hung Temple to light incense for the Hung Kings, I still come here with a simple wish: to light an incense stick in remembrance and gratitude to the Hung Kings."

Not only Hong Son Temple, located on Mo Da Mountain next to National Highway 1A (Dien Chau district), but also Cuong Temple is bustling with tourists these days coming to offer flowers and incense to commemorate the merits of Thuc An Duong Vuong - the 18th Hung King of the nation... In the temple courtyard, elderly people are holding a talk to recall the more than 4000-year tradition of nation-building and defense of our ancestors. Through this, they encourage each citizen to unite and work together to build a prosperous homeland, worthy of being descendants of Lac and Hong. "Every year, on the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, the whole family comes here with seafood to offer, praying for good luck and peace in the new year, and hoping for smooth sailing and a bountiful catch at sea," shared Ms. Que Thi Lan from Dien Chau district.

According to representatives from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nghe An province, the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day is a major national holiday. During these days, at various clans, historical sites, and localities throughout the province, several activities have been organized, such as offerings, rituals, introducing the value of heritage to students and youth union members, organizing incense offerings for the people, and sharing the legend of the descendants of Lac and Hong.

Laying a solid foundation for entering a new era.

Along with pride in our ancestry as descendants of Lac and Hong, going back in time to the 1970s and 80s, perhaps few could have imagined that this barren, rocky land with its patched-up roads and village names that evoked images of poverty would now be among the localities with relatively rapid economic growth in the country.

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung shared: In 2024, the province's economy maintained a high growth rate (estimated at 9.01%), ranking 13th nationwide. Budget revenue reached over 25,400 billion VND (the third consecutive year exceeding 20,000 billion VND)... In addition, Nghe An is among the top 10 provinces and cities attracting the highest FDI capital in the country, further demonstrating that Nghe An's investment environment is very attractive to foreign investors. In particular, the province has completed many key tasks and major projects, creating momentum for development in the coming period. The work of building and rectifying the Party and the political system has been given attention and emphasis. The leadership and guidance methods of the Provincial Party Committee have been strongly reformed towards a scientific, flexible, and decisive approach, while still ensuring the principle of democratic centralism.

These breakthrough results are thanks to the attention and support of the Central Government, the culmination of the spirit of unity, solidarity, striving efforts, and aspirations of the entire Party Committee, government, and people of Nghe An province… “The results achieved not only demonstrate the province's internal strength but also affirm the correct and close leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, the effective support and supervision of the Provincial People's Council, the proactive, flexible, and practical direction and management, the synchronized and effective implementation of tasks and solutions set forth by the Provincial People's Committee, and the consensus and support of the people and business community in the area…”, emphasized Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung.

However, objectively speaking, at present, the socio-economic development of Nghe An has not been commensurate with its potential and advantages; production and business activities are still sluggish; the quality of human resources does not meet the requirements of innovation and development; the lives of a segment of the population are still difficult; and state management in some areas is still inadequate…

Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung stated that the province has formulated ambitious and far-sighted development strategies and goals. However, in the immediate future, the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Council, and the Provincial People's Committee will lead and direct implementation, determined to accelerate and achieve breakthroughs to reach the highest possible level of the goals and targets set by the 19th Provincial Party Congress, striving for double-digit economic growth in 2025… Simultaneously, they will decisively and effectively implement the contents related to the Action Program for implementing Resolution No. 39 of the Politburo; the resolutions of the National Assembly on piloting some specific mechanisms and policies for provincial development; and the Provincial Planning to create momentum, resources, and consolidate a solid foundation for the province's development.

“Besides the determination and decisive implementation of the summary of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW, linked with the revolution in restructuring and streamlining the political system's organizational apparatus in the province towards: "Small - Compact - Strong - Efficient - Effective - Effective"… Nghe An will also continue to seize opportunities to accelerate and break through in attracting investment, promote administrative reform, implement digital transformation more strongly, and improve the investment environment with the spirit of creating favorable conditions for domestic enterprises and foreign investors to effectively implement projects in the province,” Mr. Nguyen Duc Trung shared.

Farewell, Nghe An! Silently gazing at the Lam River as evening falls. In the distance, the majestic Chung Son peak and the verdant Dai Hue mountain stand tall against the vast open sky… Suddenly, the lyrics of composer Vu Quoc Nam resonate throughout the land: Nghe An on its way forward…/ Our homeland is changing every day/ Construction projects, monumental projects…/ Singing the proud song of Nghe An, from the mountains to the sea/ For a future reaching new heights…
