An Giang province has a land border of approximately 148km, bordering the Kingdom of Cambodia. The period before, during, and after the Lunar New Year often poses a potential risk of increased crime, smuggling, and illegal immigration. Recognizing their responsibilities, the provincial armed forces and key units of Military Region 9 have developed a high-intensity plan; strictly maintaining the command, duty, and combat readiness duty regimes as prescribed.
At military units along the border, preparations for Tet (Lunar New Year) are proceeding urgently and systematically. On training grounds and practice fields, officers and soldiers are practicing plans to protect targets and handle complex situations that may arise. Communication systems, weapons, and equipment are being thoroughly inspected and maintained. Patrol teams are strengthening control of their areas, closely monitoring the situation from early on and from afar, to avoid being caught off guard or surprised.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of work, the spirit of spring still permeates every barracks. Branches of yellow apricot blossoms are carefully tended and neatly arranged. In the kitchen, officers and soldiers gather to wrap banh tet (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes). Each cake is tied securely with string, embodying camaraderie, fellowship, and longing for family.

Lunar New Year lucky money was given to encourage and motivate officers and soldiers performing their duties during the Tet holiday at the unit belonging to Battalion 519.
Captain Huynh Van Trong, Political Officer of Battalion 519, Regiment 893 (An Giang Provincial Military Command), said: “The unit is committed to the spirit of celebrating the Lunar New Year without forgetting our duties. The soldiers are strictly adhering to duty schedules while also organizing warm, economical, and safe New Year celebrations. The camaraderie among comrades is a source of encouragement for officers and soldiers to focus on their work.”
As night falls, at the forward outposts, flashlight beams sweep across the border fields. Guard shifts follow one another in the crisp early spring chill. Brief, decisive exchanges are exchanged via walkie-talkie. Each officer and soldier understands that the peace and security of the people rests behind them.
At the Ha Tien International Border Gate Border Guard Station, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tan Duong, the station commander, stated that the unit maintains its personnel on duty according to plan; closely coordinating with other forces to firmly manage and protect border sovereignty and security in all situations. At the same time, the unit organizes appropriate cultural, artistic, and sports activities, creating a joyful and united atmosphere during the Tet holiday.

At the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve, representatives from the Command of Regiment 20, Division 330 (Military Region 9) visited and encouraged officers and soldiers on duty at the guard posts. This timely attention served as a source of morale boost, helping the troops to be more confident and determined to complete their mission.
Captain Tran Hoang Phuc, Assistant Propaganda Officer, Political Department, 20th Regiment, said: “Even while on duty far from family during a time of reunion, officers and soldiers always consider the unit as their common home. The Party committee and commanders at all levels pay attention to taking good care of the material and spiritual lives of the soldiers; maintaining effective cultural, artistic, and sports activities during holidays and festivals, contributing to building a healthy cultural environment in the unit.”
Besides fulfilling their duty to protect national sovereignty, the units also coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to take care of the people in border areas during Tet (Lunar New Year). Many gifts are handed directly to policy beneficiary families and disadvantaged households before the New Year. The image of soldiers and people cleaning village roads and hanging the national flag has become familiar every spring.
Logistics and the soldiers' living conditions were meticulously ensured. The New Year's Eve dinner was abundant and heartwarming; activities such as rice cake wrapping competitions, fruit platter decorating, and cultural exchanges were organized in an orderly manner, creating a joyful atmosphere while maintaining strict military discipline. Spring on the border is therefore always associated with responsibility and a readiness to fight.
Every officer and soldier of the armed forces in An Giang province clearly understands that the task of protecting national sovereignty and border security is sacred and absolutely cannot be taken lightly. It is from these night-long guard shifts and silent sacrifices that spring in our homeland becomes more peaceful and complete.
