The family of Mr. Nguyen Van Hoach in Kem residential area, Yen Dung ward, was allocated 12 hectares of land for production forest planting. Besides planting eucalyptus and acacia trees for harvesting every 5 years, his family also planted fruit trees and other forestry trees such as lychee, jackfruit, persimmon, and custard apple. To protect the forest, fruit trees, and forestry trees from fires, Mr. Hoach's family inspects, cares for, and clears undergrowth daily, creating firebreaks. Mr. Hoach said: “The entire area of former protective forest in Kem residential area has been converted into production forest, bringing many economic benefits to the people. Planting, caring for, and protecting the existing area is a regular task for each forest owner.”

Forestry officials from the inter-ward and commune-level Forest Protection Department of Bac Giang province, along with forest owners, are creating firebreaks in Yen Dung ward. |
With the responsibility of managing and protecting the forest area of Yen Dung ward and Bac Lung commune, Mr. Tran Van Hau, a forest ranger of the Bac Giang inter-ward/commune Forest Ranger Station, must closely coordinate with contracted forest fire prevention and control officers of the communes and wards to regularly patrol the entire area bordering residential areas to promptly detect encroachment and potential forest fire risks. Mr. Tran Van Hau said: “In previous years, forest fires frequently occurred due to various reasons, mainly because people's awareness of forest management, protection, and fire prevention and control was low. Currently, thanks to awareness campaigns, the encroachment on forest land, burning of vegetation causing forest fires, and deforestation have decreased. However, the phenomenon of young people and students entering the forest to admire the scenery, and some people burning votive offerings without permission, poses a high risk of forest fires, so we continuously patrol every day.”
Yen Dung ward currently has over 800 hectares of production forest, of which more than 620 hectares are productive and nearly 190 hectares are not yet producing forestry products. Because the forest is interspersed with residential areas, industrial clusters, and historical and cultural sites, with high traffic volume, and the main tree species being eucalyptus, pine, acacia, fruit trees, and other forest trees, along with the undergrowth consisting of easily flammable herbaceous plants, the risk of forest fires is very high. To effectively prevent and fight forest fires, the People's Committee of the ward, in coordination with the inter-ward and Bac Giang commune Forest Protection Unit, directs and guides forest owners to implement management, protection, and fire prevention and control measures; organizes propaganda and training on integrating relevant documents on forest fire prevention and control; and strengthens the commune-level steering committee for forest management, protection, and fire prevention and control.
The Bac Giang Inter-Ward Forest Protection Unit is responsible for managing and protecting forest areas in Yen Dung ward and some other areas. Mr. Nguyen Van Diep, Head of the Forest Management Unit, stated: “In recent years, thanks to effective propaganda and mobilization efforts, most people in the localities have shown a positive awareness in planting, caring for, and protecting forests. However, there is still a small segment, especially young people, who lack awareness in forest fire prevention and control. Therefore, the unit always prioritizes forest management, protection, and fire prevention and control. The unit directs forest rangers in charge of the area to advise local authorities on implementing fire prevention and control measures, and to be ready to participate when mobilized. Since the beginning of the year, there have been no large-scale forest fires in the communes and wards under the unit's responsibility because they were detected and prevented in a timely manner. In the coming time, the unit will continue to direct the implementation of measures, with a focus on effectively disseminating relevant documents on forest management, protection, and fire prevention and control to the people.”
As the dry season approaches its peak, in the coming period, functional forces, local authorities, and forest owners in the ward will continue to patrol, monitor, and assess fire risks, prepare comprehensive plans and equipment for fire prevention and control, and minimize damage caused by forest fires.
