From classmates to colleagues
We went to the same high school and were part of the same close-knit group of friends. Hearing that, many people would probably think it's a typical teenage romance that blossomed over the years. But no, our love didn't begin while we were still in school.
After graduating from high school, without any prior arrangement or discussion, we both chose to study Journalism. I chose a college program, while she opted for a longer path with a university degree. Because we were studying the same major, our discussions about assignments and helping each other through deadlines became commonplace. Our relationship grew even closer.
On my graduation day, that person was still just a close friend standing beside me, offering congratulations.
Because I graduated from college, I finished early and chose to work at Binh Phuoc Radio, Television and Newspaper (BPTV) as a broadcaster – a job I truly loved. Seeing that it was a suitable environment and they were looking for collaborators, I suggested that they come to Binh Phuoc for an internship. Honestly, at that time, I simply wanted to help a close friend.
I proactively found accommodation for her, sent her all the necessary documents, and gave her detailed instructions, all to reassure her about her internship as a reporter in Binh Phuoc. This gave us another opportunity to see each other regularly. The intern reporter gave me feedback on my professional skills, and I enthusiastically stayed up late with her to complete her internship report. Gradually, we became a part of each other's lives and work without even realizing it.
When you're in love and both love your profession.
Since we started dating, perhaps the best thing is that we both love our jobs and work in the same field. Working together at BPTV, we support each other on every news item, every report, every documentary, overcoming the pressures of the job together. The days when we excitedly came up with a topic and immediately started working on it, the times the reporter helped me revise my script, the times we went filming together, the times we worked together on location… all have become very special memories.
We are not just a couple, but part of the BPTV family.
There were times of fatigue, arguments, and even anger, but the biggest thing that kept us together, besides our friendship, was probably mutual respect in our work and a willingness to listen. From that, we came to believe that love and journalism, seemingly two parallel paths, can intersect in the simplest place: the heart of a journalist, if there is enough love, understanding, and a shared vision.
The staff at the station often joke, "BPTV has another couple carrying on the station's tradition!" This is because there are many married couples who work together and are dedicated to the profession. Some couples have even raised children who share their parents' passion for journalism.
From people who supported each other in the workplace… to people who will walk together through every step of the journey ahead.
From classmates to best friends, then colleagues, and finally lovers, it's been a journey that's unhurried and unpretentious, but full of sincerity and quiet companionship. We continue to write that story with passion, with evenings spent rushing to meet deadlines, revising assignments, and even weekends spent wandering around just to recharge our inspiration and overcome pressure together.
Now, every day we go on air together, go to the scene together, and write a love story that is both noisy and quiet... in a very journalistic way.
