Recently, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 18/CT-TTg dated June 18th on promoting domestic and international trade; the central focus of which is to promote trade on digital platforms, reduce dependence on traditional methods, and expand export markets through trade agreements. Accordingly, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to coordinate with other ministries, sectors, and localities to organize large-scale online trade promotion programs, support businesses in improving digital skills, and utilize digital marketing tools, big data, and AI to effectively exploit international markets.
According to experts, digital transformation in trade promotion includes the use of information technology platforms, e-commerce, big data, and artificial intelligence to organize and implement activities to promote and introduce products, connect businesses, and find business partners. This method helps businesses reach customers faster, at lower costs, and with greater flexibility compared to traditional models.
In fact, by early 2025, up to 32% of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) had established business relationships with foreign partners through online platforms. Cross-border e-commerce is becoming a dominant trend, especially as platforms like Amazon, Alibaba, and Shopee Global facilitate Vietnamese goods reaching global consumers quickly and efficiently.
BaKa Co., Ltd. (Gia Lai), a company specializing in the production of specialty coffee, is one of the leading businesses in applying digital technology to trade promotion. In addition to building a website to showcase its products, the company has invested in promotional videos and created online stores on e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, TikTok Shop, Lazada, and Postmart. Notably, their weekly livestream sales activities, combining presentations of their closed-loop production process with direct customer offers, have resulted in a revenue increase of over 30%.
Similarly, the Nam Yang Agricultural and Service Cooperative (Gia Lai) is also promoting its black pepper and white pepper products through social media platforms, online fairs, and e-commerce promotion programs. Thanks to technical support from the Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade and partner units, the cooperative has completed its electronic traceability system, creating unique QR codes for each product line, making it easy for consumers to check the origin and quality certification.
Ms. Do Thi Gam, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Ngoc Tra Ecological Medicinal Herbs Cooperative (Nam Dinh), said: Thanks to training in livestreaming skills and impressive product introductions, the cooperative has attracted a large number of new customers in many provinces and cities in the region. Currently, the cooperative sells an average of over 100 kg per month, with peak months reaching 200 kg. Therefore, the cooperative is continuing to hone its trade promotion and sales skills on digital platforms to improve production and business efficiency.
Beyond retail, some businesses are connecting directly with domestic and international partners through virtual trade fair platforms, online B2B platforms, and partner search systems within the industry and trade sector. The use of tools to analyze consumer trends and customer behavior from these platforms is also being pioneered by some businesses, serving their strategies for developing suitable products.
Recognizing the potential of e-commerce, Hena Agricultural Cooperative (Dak Lak) – specializing in the production, processing, and trading of essential oils and cold-pressed oils – has focused on developing its business on digital platforms. As a result, the cooperative has built a strong brand and achieved effective business results on social media and e-commerce platforms, reaching a wider customer base and securing numerous production and sales contracts with large domestic and international businesses such as those in Malaysia, Taiwan, New Zealand, and Australia.
Mr. Van Quoc Viet, Director of Ngon Avatar Co., Ltd., said: "Previously, to promote our products, we had to participate in provincial fairs, Central-Western Highlands fairs, or connect through distributors. But now, with just a phone and a stable internet connection, we can introduce our coffee products directly to consumers nationwide. Costs have decreased, and effectiveness has increased significantly."
The digital transformation in trade promotion in Gia Lai is not just an individual effort; it also receives active support from state management agencies, especially the Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade. Recently, the Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade collaborated with the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) and TikTok Shop to organize a training program on applying AI in marketing and business activities, and building sales systems on e-commerce platforms.
To support businesses, representatives from the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade) stated that in the coming period, the Department will continue to promote training, especially through online methods, to suit the conditions of businesses. Upcoming programs will be designed practically around four pillars: Go Online, Go Export, Go AI, and Go Right.
Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director of the Trade Promotion Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), emphasized: The changing global and regional situation brings both advantages and opportunities, as well as intertwined difficulties and challenges, posing many new demands in trade promotion. Therefore, trade promotion in the coming period will be flexible, combining traditional and modern trade promotion, linked with e-commerce and the digital economy.
In particular, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will focus on investing in digital transformation to improve the effectiveness of trade promotion, thereby strengthening communication and promotion, and enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese branded products and goods. This is a golden opportunity for Vietnamese businesses, especially cooperatives and small and medium-sized enterprises, to extend their reach to the global market.
