Female teacher earns half a billion dong per year from "side job"

(Dan Tri) - Thanks to her side job, a female teacher in Mau Lam commune, Thanh Hoa province earns half a billion dong per year.

Ms. Le Thi Giang (50 years old), a teacher at Phu Nhuan Primary School, Mau Lam Commune, Thanh Hoa Province, is not only attached to the podium but is also a "farmer" with a good hand in raising deer, bringing in a "huge" income of nearly half a billion VND per year.

In 2020, realizing the economic potential of raising deer locally, Ms. Giang decided to give it a try.

"Besides class time and lesson planning, I like to do farming for fun, so I discussed with my husband about raising deer for fun," Ms. Giang shared about her initial decision.

After completing the licensing procedures, Giang and her husband invested in building barns, planting grass and buying 10 deer for breeding. After only 2 years of care, the male deer produced antlers and the female deer entered the reproductive period.

Ms. Giang excitedly said: "Deer velvet costs 15 million VND/kg. And baby deer, after 4 months of care, are sold for 30 million VND/deer. Seeing the profit increase day by day, I am very happy and excited."

From her initial success, Ms. Giang boldly expanded the scale. In the garden area of ​​nearly 2 hectares, she used a part to grow grass and the rest to raise deer. Thanks to good care techniques, the deer herd reproduced regularly, at times the total herd reached up to 40.

According to Ms. Giang, raising deer is not too complicated, the main food is leaves, natural grass and they rarely get sick. A deer can live more than 20 years if well cared for, bringing a stable and long-term source of income.

To ensure the best quality antlers, deer need to be nourished 1 to 2 months before harvest. Deer antlers are cut within 45 days, according to Ms. Giang, this is the time when they are richest in medicinal properties. On average, each adult male deer can produce 2 antlers per year.

"Every year, I sell about 20 deer for breeding, each one costs about 30 million VND. In addition, I also harvest 20 pairs of deer antlers, selling them on the market for 12 million VND/kg. After deducting expenses, I have a profit of about half a billion VND," Ms. Giang revealed about economic efficiency.

To promote her products, Ms. Giang has taken advantage of social networks, created TikTok and Youtube channels to livestream (live broadcast) to share experiences and introduce products. Thanks to that, the number of customers who know her is increasing.

"Before, I just thought of raising deer for fun, but who would have thought it would later become a sustainable economic direction. Raising deer brings a significant income to the family and creates jobs for a local worker with a salary of 6 million VND/person/month," said Ms. Giang.

Mr. Le Huy Tan, Head of the Economic Department of Mau Lam Commune, highly appreciated Ms. Giang's dynamism and creativity. Her family's deer farming model not only brought about clear economic efficiency, created jobs for local workers, but also spread the spirit of good economic performance among cadres and civil servants.

From the practical effectiveness of Ms. Giang's model, many households in the commune have come to learn and boldly invested in raising deer. Currently, the whole Mau Lam commune has 5 deer raising models, bringing in high income and creating jobs for dozens of workers.

This work not only helps increase legitimate income but also contributes to changing thinking, creating motivation for people to learn and follow."
