Proactively respond to heavy rain, high risk of floods and landslides

The National Steering Committee for Civil Defense has just issued a dispatch on proactively responding to floods in the Central region, including Dak Lak province.

The dispatch of the National Civil Defense Steering Committee stated that, according to the forecast, from the night of November 15 to the night of November 18, the area from Hue city to Gia Lai will have heavy rain of 300 - 600 mm, locally over 800 mm. Particularly in Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa areas, the common rainfall will be 150 - 350 mm, locally over 500 mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain (over 150 mm/3 hours).

According to the Dak Lak Province Hydrometeorological Station, it is forecasted that from noon on November 16 to the night of November 17: The communes/wards in the East of the province will have heavy rain, some places will have very heavy rain and thunderstorms, with common rainfall from 100 - 200 mm, some places over 250 mm;

The communes/wards in the West of the province have moderate to heavy rain, with rainfall ranging from 50 - 80 mm, in some places over 100 mm. It is forecasted that in the next 48 - 72 hours, Dak Lak province will continue to have moderate to heavy rain.

Due to the impact of heavy rain, from November 16 to 20, there is a possibility of a flood on rivers and streams in Dak Lak province: The flood peak on the Serepok and Ba river basins will reach alert levels 1 to 2, some places will be above alert level 2; Ky Lo, Ban Thach and Tam Giang rivers will reach alert levels 2 to 3, some places will be above alert level 3.

The Provincial Hydrometeorological Station has also issued a warning of a high risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams; landslides on steep slopes, especially in communes/wards in the eastern part of the province. The level of natural disaster risk due to flash floods and landslides is level 1.

To proactively respond, the National Civil Defense Steering Committee recommends that the People's Committees of provinces and cities: Closely monitor forecast and warning bulletins and provide timely and complete information to local authorities and people for proactive prevention;

Deploy shock forces to inspect and review residential areas along rivers, streams, low-lying areas at risk of floods, flash floods, and landslides; proactively organize the relocation and evacuation of people to safe places; have plans to support food and necessities for people at evacuation sites;

Arrange forces to guard and control people and vehicles in areas at risk of deep flooding and landslides; ensure smooth traffic on main routes. Check, review and deploy measures to ensure the safety of key works and reservoirs; proactively operate reservoir discharge to prioritize flood reduction capacity for downstream areas.

Proactively take measures to drain water to prevent flooding and protect production, industrial parks, and urban areas. Prepare forces, vehicles, equipment, and necessities according to the "four on-the-spot" motto to be ready to respond to all situations.
