Hai Phong promotes e-commerce, expanding opportunities for students

Ms. Vu Thi Kim Phuong, Deputy Director of Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade shared at the event.
In her opening speech, Ms. Vu Thi Kim Phuong, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, emphasized that the world is witnessing a strong transformation of the digital economy , in which e-commerce plays a pioneering role in promoting socio-economic development. Despite the difficult regional and global economic context, Vietnam's e-commerce in the 2021-2025 period still maintains an impressive growth rate of 20-27%/year, with an estimated scale of 32 billion USD by 2024.
Hai Phong – with its position as the largest port city in the North, modern transport infrastructure and hundreds of industrial parks and clusters – is becoming a dynamic trading center of the country. The city's e-commerce accounts for 16-18% of total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue, higher than the national average (12%), with an average growth of 23-25%/year. The strong development of logistics, smart seaports and digital infrastructure has created an ideal environment for e-commerce to break through and actively contribute to the city's digital transformation process.
Ms. Phuong emphasized that the generation of Hai Phong students is standing at an important threshold to start a business and establish a career. E-commerce is the golden key to the future, opening up a diverse career ecosystem from digital marketing, data analysis, smart logistics to interface design and technology. Digital skills will help you practice innovative thinking, adapt quickly and become a young, dynamic human resource for the digital economy.
Ms. Phuong also affirmed that e-commerce does not require large capital or traditional premises, thereby opening up opportunities for students to start businesses from small ideas, helping Hai Phong products reach domestic and foreign markets.
Southeast Asia's e-commerce boom and the livestream "fever": Opportunities and challenges for the digital student generation

Ms. Nguyen Phuong Ly, Deputy Head of Service Information and Training Department, Center for E-commerce and Digital Technology Development, Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (Ministry of Industry and Trade)
Agreeing with the leader of the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Ly, representative of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, analyzed the overall picture of Vietnam's e-commerce in relation to the strong movement of the Southeast Asian region. Ms. Ly said that Southeast Asia has become one of the most dynamic markets in the world, with a total online transaction value exceeding 100 billion USD by 2024. In that general picture, Vietnam is a bright spot with e-commerce revenue reaching 25 billion USD, being among the 10 fastest growing countries in the world and ranking third in Southeast Asia in terms of market size, after Indonesia and Thailand, with more than 60 million online shoppers.

According to Ms. Ly, this impressive growth rate not only reflects the expanding market size but also places great demands on the young workforce. Students need to be equipped with digital thinking, analytical skills and a deep understanding of how platforms operate if they want to adapt to the future e-commerce and digital economy labor market.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Ly also emphasized the new regulations on livestream sales activities - a type of business that is growing strongly in Vietnam and is directly related to the model that students have just experienced. Ms. Ly said that livestream has become an important sales channel, but it also requires transparency of information, compliance with regulations on goods and legal responsibilities of sellers to protect consumer rights. For students, who may be business entities or content operators in the future, understanding the legal framework is a necessary condition for sustainable development on digital platforms.

From the perspective of a professional organization in the field of e-commerce, the representative of the Vietnam E-commerce Association also shared highly applicable content, focusing on livestream skills and building personal brands in the digital environment. Experts said that in an increasingly competitive environment, the ability to create content, skills in front of the camera, the ability to maintain real-time interactions and understanding of platform algorithms are important factors that help young people make their mark and improve business efficiency. In particular, building a consistent, professional personal image and knowing how to exploit user behavior data will help students increase their competitiveness in the e-commerce labor market.
The combination of practical experience – market knowledge – legal updates – practical skills creates a comprehensive and valuable training program for students. Not only approaching e-commerce through numbers and concepts, students in Hai Phong enter a real digital business environment, understand how the market operates and know what they need to prepare to participate effectively. This is the goal that Hai Phong is aiming for: to build a young, dynamic, creative e-commerce human resource, contributing to promoting digital transformation and developing the city's digital economy in the coming years.
