Since the middle of last year, due to global impacts, manufacturing sectors such as wood, textiles, and footwear have experienced a shortage of orders. Many factories with large workforces in southern provinces like Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai have had to reduce their labor force. Workers in many businesses are facing unemployment and reduced income.

Representatives from trade unions in the southern provinces believe that the level of Tet bonuses this year will depend on the industry and export market. For example, within the garment industry, businesses exporting to Europe will be more affected and receive lower bonuses. Many factories are starting to receive end-of-year orders and are waiting for payment from partners before they can balance their finances, with announcements not made until January 2024.

The Tet bonus amounts announced by provinces and cities are based on data reported by a number of businesses in their areas. According to the leaders of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the law does not mandate Tet bonuses, but this amount demonstrates the social responsibility of factory owners. Especially during difficult times, workers are more eager for Tet bonuses, and early announcement will help them feel secure.

Today is the deadline for localities to report the situation regarding salaries and Tet bonuses to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.
