Regular meeting combined with celebration of 20 years of establishment of the Club for Building Sustainable Family Development in Zone 7, Binh Thuy Ward.
That is the Club for Building Sustainable Family Development in Zone 7, Binh Thuy Ward, Can Tho City. When it was first established 20 years ago, the Club was called “Full Moon” because it held its regular activities on the Full Moon night every month. Later, it was renamed the Cultural Family Club and its new name as it is today, changing its activities to the 16th night of the lunar calendar every month. Regardless of the name or the day of activities, the spirit of “Full Moon” still shines brightly in this Club. It is the pioneering spirit of building a cultural lifestyle, taking family as the foundation, the catalyst being the love of the village and the ideal being the love of the homeland and country.
On the night of June 16th of the lunar calendar, we had the opportunity to participate in the regular meeting combined with the celebration of the 20th birthday of the Club. Everyone arrived early and in large numbers. Present at the gate to welcome everyone was Mr. Nguyen Xuan Linh, who has been the Chairman of this Club for the past 20 years. Witnessing the meeting led by Mr. Linh, we felt that his enthusiasm was still intact as in the beginning. Mr. Linh opened the meeting by informing about the local situation. He talked about the policy of merging provinces and cities and building a 2-level local government. Mr. Linh presented concisely, easily understood, with a passionate atmosphere as if to convey confidence and give hope to the listeners. Then, he and the people learned about and discussed the current situation of building cultural families, together listening to the thoughts and aspirations of the members...
Over the past 20 years, two very good activities in this club have been maintained regularly: revolving capital contribution without interest and quizzes with prizes. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Linh told very clearly that in the first month 20 years ago, each person contributed 50,000 VND, then gradually increased, now it is 2 million VND. Each month is divided into 2-4 chains. At first, the lowest monthly recipient was about 1 million VND, the highest was 2.4 million VND; now the highest is up to 26 million VND and the lowest is also 6 million VND. Up to now, this model has rotated 15 times, with over 700 people receiving money, with a total amount of nearly 5.2 billion VND. This is an impressive number for a Cultural Family Club in the area. This money is used by people to supplement capital for business, household purchases, and children's education. Although the form of drawing lots to choose the recipient, if anyone has an urgent need, they are given priority to receive it first.
Another interesting activity is that every time, Chairman Nguyen Xuan Linh will give a riddle with a few verses of poetry, for everyone to answer and receive a prize. After the meeting, anyone who has an answer will call the Chairman directly to report the answer for recognition. The gift is a box of milk, although small, it brings great joy, everyone has been excited about this activity for the past 20 years. Mr. Linh said that the Club has given 483 boxes of milk to those who guessed correctly, with a total amount of nearly 8.5 million VND. Of which, Mr. Tiet Ngoc Trong guessed the most correctly with 54 times, followed by Mr. Thuan with 37 times, Mr. Duy with 35 times, Ms. Thu with 32 times...
Mr. Tran Anh Duy, a club member, shared: "Bringing the puzzle home makes the whole family think to solve the puzzle, it's fun and meaningful." Mr. Nguyen Xuan Linh concluded: "Although the two activities are secondary, they are invisible strings that tie the solidarity of the members, always maintaining full attendance at meetings and encouraging each other to participate."
Looking back 20 years, it can be said that the Club for Building Sustainable Family Development in Region 7 deserves to be a model of cultural model not only in Can Tho City but also in the whole country. It is a typical example of innovative, attractive and effective ways of doing things; a way to persuade and attract members to participate throughout; and effective dissemination in building cultural life at the grassroots level.
At the 20th anniversary of the Club, there was Ms. Tran Ngoc Nga, former Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, who has been with the Club since the early days and has accompanied it for the past 20 years in one way or another; there were also officials and former officials in charge of building grassroots cultural life of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City; representatives of Binh Thuy Ward... All sat together to look back on the 20 years of "Full Moon" quietly shining, positioning and maintaining a real, typical cultural model in the current new context. Many great ideas were put forward such as expanding inter-club, inter-regional, even inter-ward activities; replicating the Cultural Family Club model... and finding ways for the Club to "go the long way". That is also a way for the Club to be "fueled".

On the day of the Club’s 20th birthday, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Linh was moved to re-read the poem he composed on the occasion of the Club’s launch 20 years ago. The meaningful poem is also the motto that the Club has maintained throughout the past and for the long road ahead:
"Together in mind and heart"
Village love and neighborhood spirit are built with all our heart.
