In the digital age, happiness is measured not only by material possessions but also by the balance between work, physical and mental health, and positive social relationships. Technology is providing many opportunities to improve the quality of life, reducing working hours and increasing time for rest, recreation, and family bonding. Digital tools such as social media and communication apps have helped shorten geographical distances, enabling family members to frequently chat and care for each other. At the same time, technology supports healthcare, access to knowledge, and personal development, thereby expanding opportunities to experience happiness.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nguyet, from Cao Thang 1A area (Ha Lam ward), shared: "My family has four children who have all left home to pursue their careers. We created a group on Zalo to stay in touch. Thanks to this, the members can openly chat and care for each other more. Especially on holidays and birthdays, the children all send wishes in the group, which makes me feel very happy."
However, alongside the benefits, the digital age also presents numerous challenges. The widespread use of smart devices such as phones, tablets, and laptops makes people easily drawn into the virtual world , reducing direct interaction within families and society. This can affect the lifestyle, emotions, behavior, and values of each individual, while also degrading the quality of relationships.
According to Associate Professor Vu Vuong Truong, Head of the Faculty of Education, Ha Long University, digital technology brings many benefits and contributes to enhancing human connection and happiness. However, over-reliance on or misuse of technology can lead to negative consequences such as information overload, stress, anxiety, reduced concentration, and creativity. In particular, excessive use of social media can lead to the risk of technology addiction, weakening real-life relationships and the feeling of genuine happiness. Furthermore, cybersecurity risks such as information theft and high-tech fraud also need to be considered.

In fact, many families have proactively found ways to adapt. Ms. Tran Thanh Binh (Cao Xanh ward) shared her experience when her child entered primary school: Initially, my family bought an iPad to help with my child's learning, but gradually my child overused the device and talked less with the family. Instead of forbidding it, I chose to accompany and gently manage social media, TikTok, YouTube, etc., while creating more time for shared activities such as watching TV, cooking, and playing sports together.
Experts believe that, in the current context, each individual's responsibility is to use technology intelligently and responsibly; while also focusing on physical and mental health, maintaining positive relationships, and continuously learning to adapt to societal changes. When people master technology, it will become a useful tool to help us increase our happiness.
