- After a period of absence, what made you decide to return with the music video "Tears in the Shape of a Doll"?

- For me, "Tears in a Doll's Shape" is not simply a musical product, but a destined encounter. The song came to me at the right time, when I had many emotions I couldn't yet name and longed to express the most genuine hidden aspects of myself. This comeback also marks a turning point in my personal journey. I clearly feel that I can now confront my emotions more directly, no longer avoiding or being vague as before. This is like a milestone to close the old phase and begin a more mature path, both in life and in music.

- This music video explores a theme of a difficult-to-define emotion. Why did you choose this approach instead of more explicit love stories?

- I think that in modern life, people - especially young people - experience many kinds of emotions that are difficult to name. It's not exactly love, nor is it entirely commitment, but there is care and concern, and gradually it becomes a form of bond that is very difficult to break.

I don't want to tell a dramatic story or showcase typical love tragedies. What I aim for is a journey of self-awareness – where each person learns to proactively understand and control their own emotions, to find happiness for themselves and spread that happiness to those around them. Not every emotion can be called love, but any relationship needs to be nurtured with sincerity. And that's the message I want to convey through my song.

- During the recording and production of the song, what was the biggest challenge for you?

- For me, the biggest challenge wasn't vocal technique, but controlling the nuances of expression. This song demands a high degree of restraint to maintain subtlety in each line. Besides that, the music video shoot was also a memorable experience. The MV was filmed in Ba Vi ( Hanoi ) in very cold weather. My co-star and I had to put in a lot of effort to complete the scenes well.

The team chose Ba Vi as the setting because of its unique beauty: the fresh, tranquil, and dreamy atmosphere, which perfectly suits the mood of the characters in the story. We also hope that these images will help spread the beauty of this picturesque destination in the capital to the audience.

- The combination of introspective colors and EDM (electronic dance music) elements in the final mix is considered an experiment. How do you view this?

- This was indeed a carefully calculated experiment. "Tears of a Doll" was initially written in a minimalist piano version, where emotions were placed at the center, in their most authentic form. However, during the finalization process, the team decided to add EDM elements to the official arrangement, aiming to broaden the scope and create new nuances for the song.

For me, the most important thing is that even with changes in sound, the core spirit of the song must remain the same. EDM doesn't diminish emotional depth; if handled subtly, it can even open up new layers of emotion. I always try to find a balance between modern elements and lyricism, to maintain my own unique style while staying within the mainstream of contemporary music, making my work more accessible to younger audiences.

- Having risen to prominence from the Vietnam Idol 2012 competition, and after many years of working with a "slow but steady" approach, what are your goals for the future?

- I've never aimed to create products that immediately grab attention. Perhaps that means I don't appear too frequently, but in return, I have time to meticulously craft each product. What I want is for my music to resonate with the audience for a longer time. When they listen to a song again after some time, they can still find something to relate to, or see a part of their own story in it – that's what constitutes lasting value.

In the journey ahead, I will continue to pursue a distinctly personal musical path, focusing on relatable, everyday stories.

- Thank you, Bao Tram, for sharing!
