On the morning of September 22, eight earthquakes occurred in Kon Plong district, the largest of which was 4.4 magnitude, creating tremors that people felt, according to the Institute of Geophysics.
Eight major earthquakes of 2.7-4.4 magnitude, with a depth of 8-10 km, of which the largest one of 4.4 magnitude occurred at 7:45 am. People in neighboring areas such as Kon Ray district, Kon Tum city (Kon Tum province), and Chu Pah district (Gia Lai province) felt the tremors.

According to experts, the tremors in Kon Plong were induced earthquakes that occurred in the reservoir area serving the hydroelectric power plant. When the hydroelectric power plant was operating, it put pressure on the ground, leading to a sliding movement that caused an earthquake.
In March 2021, after the Thuong Kon Tum plant in Kon Plong district stored water to generate electricity, tremors in the area increased dramatically. Statistics from 1903 to 2020 show that Kon Plong district recorded about 33 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or higher in 117 years.
However, from 2021 to now, there have been more than 200 earthquakes here. The biggest one took place in August 2022, with a magnitude of 4.7. At that time, people in some provinces and cities hundreds of kilometers away from Kon Plong felt tremors and objects falling to the ground.
