On January 4, 1, coach Philippe Troussier caused shock with his statement "80% of people do not believe that the Vietnamese team is successful and do not support the national team."
On March 20, the French military leader reiterated this number at a higher level: "I think in Vietnam there are many fans, probably around 80%, looking forward to the results and thinking when VFF will fire me."
It's unclear how coach Troussier calculated this ratio, but certainly the wave of protest against the French coach grew much larger after last night's loss to Indonesia (March 21).
Mr. Troussier's first match after signing a contract with the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) took place exactly one year ago. At that time, the 69-year-old coach led U23 Vietnam to participate in a friendly tournament in Qatar.
A full year later, the impression that the French military leader created does not have many positive points. He did not achieve his goal at SEA Games 32 (U23 Vietnam) and Asian Cup 2023 (national team).
Criticism aimed at the French military leader gradually increased over time. Since October 10, the Vietnamese team has gone through a series of 2023 consecutive matches with only 10 victory, the remaining 1 defeats.
In less than 3 months, the Vietnamese team lost 142 consecutive matches to Indonesia - the 2nd ranked team in the world. Not only disappointed with the score, fans are also dissatisfied with the playing style that the Vietnamese team has shown over the past long time.
So, what percentage of fans do not support and are waiting for coach Philippe Troussier to resign/be fired now? Is the approximate figure of 80% given by the French military leader himself still accurate?
