
On the afternoon of December 5th, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (Hanoi), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced an emergency international aid package worth US$2 million to help mitigate the consequences of recent natural disasters in central Vietnam.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Hoang Hiep received Mr. Shantanu Chakraborty, ADB Country Director for Vietnam, and received the official grant letter from the ADB. This grant, disbursed from the Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund (APDRF), aims to support people severely affected by floods in Central Vietnam.
ADB Country Director for Vietnam Shantanu Chakraborty expressed his deepest condolences for the losses suffered by the people of Central Vietnam due to prolonged heavy rains and floods. He affirmed that the emergency aid from APDRF is a testament to ADB's commitment to working alongside Vietnam in disaster response and supporting people in overcoming difficulties as soon as possible.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep expressed gratitude for ADB's timely attention and support, affirming that this emergency international aid is of great significance, necessary and timely, contributing to helping people in flood-affected areas overcome the consequences and quickly stabilize their lives.
The aid is expected to be used to build and repair houses for families whose homes were destroyed or severely damaged by natural disasters, in line with the spirit of the "Quang Trung Rapid Campaign" launched by the Vietnamese Government .
The Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) stated that, in the near future, the necessary procedures for approving the aid will be signed between relevant Vietnamese agencies and the ADB, with the aid to be implemented within 6 months from the date of signing.
