Previously, the ASEAN Cup 2024 was scheduled to be held from November 23 to December 21. "However, after considering opinions and proposals from a number of member federations, AFF decided to adjust the schedule to ensure the strength and optimal performance of the national teams participating in the tournament," said the AFF announcement.
According to the draw in May, the Vietnamese team is in Group B with Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos. Group A includes defending champions Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and the winner of the play-off match between Brunei and Timor Leste.
Teams compete in a round-robin format in the group stage (each team plays 2 home matches and 2 away matches), with the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals. Semi-finals and finals are played on a home/away basis.
Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will play their opening match away against Laos on December 9, home against Indonesia on December 15, away against the Philippines on December 18 and home against Myanmar on December 21.
