According to the AFF, the ASEAN Cup 2024 qualifiers will still take place on October 8th and 15th between Brunei and Timor Leste. Group stage matches will run from December 8th to 21st. The semi-final matches (first and second legs) will be held on December 26th, 27th, 29th, and 30th. The two final matches will be postponed to 2025, with games on January 2nd and 5th. Thus, compared to the original schedule, the AFF Cup 2024 has been delayed by two weeks. This timing is very close to the FIFA Days in November.

ASEAN Cup 2024 group stage draw.

Previously, the ASEAN Cup 2024 was scheduled to be held from November 23 to December 21. "However, after considering opinions and proposals from several member federations, the AFF decided to adjust the schedule to ensure the optimal strength and performance of the national teams participating in the tournament," the AFF announcement stated.

According to the draw results in May, the Vietnamese team is in Group B along with Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos. Group A consists of the defending champion Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and the winner of the play-off match between Brunei and Timor Leste.

The teams compete in a round-robin format in the group stage (each team plays two home and two away matches), with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The semi-finals and final are played over two legs, with home and away matches.

Coach Kim Sang Sik's team will play their opening match against Laos away on December 9th, face Indonesia at home on December 15th, travel to the Philippines on December 18th, and host Myanmar at home on December 21st.

The Vietnam Football Federation's goal for coach Kim Sang-sik and the Vietnamese national team is to reach the final of the ASEAN Cup 2024.

The Southeast Asian Championship was established in 1996 under the name Tiger Cup, then renamed AFF Cup in 2008 and from 2024 onwards as ASEAN Cup. Thailand is the most successful team with 7 titles, followed by: Singapore (4 times), Vietnam (2 times), and Malaysia (1 time).
